Sylvie's 2013 NAS: Part 1

I don't know how many parts there will be, but I'm pretty sure I'll be posting many more NAS threads.

Since I'm in the Pacific Timezone I was able to place an order online at around 1 am, some of which I picked up in store this evening and the rest of which is being delivered.

1) Dressing room shot

Stuff I'm thinking about keeping:

2) Eliza J shift dress. This is the larger size I tried which made me feel frumpy. I brought the smaller size home to think about the fit. It's nice and stretchy.

3) EF U-neck top. Debating how many to get/which colors.

4) Equipment houndstooth sweater. I *really* like it but am concerned about $$.

5) Crewneck silk/cashmere sweater. Debating the colors here as well.

6) RM 5-zip bag. I have a forest green bag and a navy bag and I really wanted a small summer-y bag. I think I will most likely return this one because the aqua isn't dissimilar enough.

7) Longchamps expandable tote. I need to play around with this one and see if it's going to be a practical tote for me.

I'll add the stuff I tried on but rejected in the next message down.

These are things I tried on but rejected. I thought you might like to see how they looked on a person.

1) Mixed media top that Sona bought. I liked this but it wasn't a 10 on me.

2) Halogen cardigan which I tried on for fit only. Incidentally, if you imagine the cardigan is not there, you have my WIW for shopping.

3) Foxcroft shirt. I didn't like the pattern.

4) Trina Turk shell. I liked this but it wasn't a 10 on me.

5) Vince Camuto mixed media shirt. This is at least a size too small. I already have a red shirt, so I may go back and try the cream in a size up.

6) Halogen shirt. The fit of this was weird on me. I might need to go into the regular sizes or a larger size. I rejected this because it was not practical for my lifestyle.

7) Not shown: Equipment sheer houndstooth shirt. I just didn't like it on me.

8) Not shown: Classiques Entier drape neck shell with lace on the shoulders.

9) Not shown: Trouve sheer graphic print top (in catalog - it's black with red squares in front and fake leather neck binding). Didn't like this one at all.

I love the bags. I have a longchamp large tote & find it very useful traveling & at home. I love the houndstooth sweater. I hesitated due to price too but ended up spending the same $ on 2 sweaters but maybe one great one is better than 2.

I like everythin, except the 4) Equipment houndstooth sweater and if it's expensive, I vote pass!

Thanks for posting both your "maybes" and your rejects, Sylvie. It really does help to see how the stuff looks.

I really like the Eliza J. dress. It does not seem too large in the photo, but you know best how it feels and that is the main thing.

The sweaters look great. I love the houndstooth one. But yes, the pricetag is big.

Bags are lovely. I am also debating a Longchamps.

In the second set, I really like 3 and 4, but if they don't feel like 10s to you then you are right to put them back!

I really loved the houndstooth sweater. I wonder if Rute didn't like it because the pattern was so big. It could be overwhelming on smaller frames.

In my opinion, everything you did not keep was wise. For the peices you are considering, I really like the EF U-neck and the Equipment houndsooth.

The bags are very lovely.

i have that houndstooth sweater on my cart. I have the matching sheer blouse from last year. I thought it would be fun to have both. I agree with the keeps and the passes. My daughter has both of these bags, as a matter of fact, and she uses both heavily.

Oh! I was intrigued by the Longchamps when I saw it on the site yesterday. What does it look like expanded? I use my regular one all the time, both for work and traveling. It's so lightweight which my shoulder really appreciates, and the straps are just the right length and thickness.

Love the houndstooth.

Thank you for the feedback ladies! I'm most unsure about the Longchamps bag because:

The straps seem to long
The straps want to roll off my shoulder.
I can't fold the bag up as small as I'd like.

What I really want is a very strong, lightweight, yet still fashionable tote that I can put into a purse. That way if I'm out and about and need to pick up a few groceries or go shopping, I have a bag handy. I've been using the white bag with red/black polka dots that you see in the background of the photos. It is going to break within the year and I'd rather not have to keep buying new totes.

Anyway, I'll load up the bag and do some walking around with it at home and see if I can make it work for me. I might need to get one of the standard bags instead.

@Elle: Exactly. I'm trying to "turn off my brain to prices" and then evaluate whether one amazing sweater is going to bring me more joy than four "just ok" sweaters.

@Rute & Gabrielle: The houndstooth pattern is quite bold. When I showed it to my husband, I told him he was either going to "love it" or "hate it". I think it looks better in real life than in the photos, but maybe I'm fooling myself. Will definitely need to do some careful thinking about this one.

@Suz: I'll need to post photos of the smaller size dress. I did like the TT top but the utility for my life to price ratio didn't work out. I suspect I'll be stalking it to see if it goes to the rack.

@Thistle: Thanks! I can tell the EF U-neck is going to be a winter workhorse for me.

@Zapotee: The houndstooth sweater was made for you. You do white and black so well. Have you posted any WIW's with the blouse - curious to see how you style it.

@Diana: I'll try to post an expanded photo when I get home. Did the straps on yours break in over time? Do they stay on your shoulder?

@Debbie: Aren't we dress twins on an Eliza J cobalt shift dress? I think you would like this one as well.

The straps on mine stay on my shoulders OK. Sometimes one strap will fall down but that's kind of standard for double strap bags. This type of narrow strap always stays best on me. My shoulders slope though so nothing is super stable, but I'd say the Longchamps is pretty good. They did soften up a bit with use but not enough to be floppy. I like the longer strap length. One of my major irritations with a lot of bags is that when they're full, it's really uncomfortable to have that huge thing stuffed in your armpit. This one hangs low enough that I can put my arm down all the way. Plus I can use it over my wool winter coats, where shorter straps get stuck.
I have the regular Large sized one. Honestly I never fold it up because it's so big and lightweight I just chuck my second purse inside it if I am traveling. It does fold up really small though. I could see that the expandable zipper would make it harder to fold.

The dress is my favorite of the group. Thanks for also posting the misses, it's helpful to see these items on someone. I have also been thinking about the Longchamp tote but I have to see how large it is in person first.

@Beth: Thank you! The dress is definitely staying.

@Diana: That's really helpful - thank you. I can see where I'd want the longer straps if I wore winter coats for more than a week out of the year. Typically round straps with a bit of give or flat straps work best on my shoulders. If the bag works out for me, I'm going to exchange the black for the pink because well, I'm addicted to color.

@Lisa: Thank you for liking the dress. The tote isn't really overwhelming. I'll post some photos of it loaded up while being worn.

@Rachylou. Thanks for the feedback. I always enjoy reading other people's analyses as well.
