My interpretation of SYC is Style Your Closet. I’m not going to have a ‘no buy’ year, but I did want to challenge myself to go through my closet and Wear It All - with an emphasis on going through my 25 different tops. I also started counting wears from January 1 in order to better understand what 30 wears is all about.* That said, I didn’t add anything to my closet this month.

A two week Caribbean vacation influenced my clothing choices and provided an opportunity to get sleeveless tops into rotation. During the month I wore 6/8 pants, but also 2 pairs of shorts. 10/25 tops saw action. Additionally 2/5 dresses were worn, and mix and match bikini components got a workout. The most worn garment (not counting winter outerwear) was a rash-guard swim shirt bought in January and worn 10 times.

Since the start of the year, 7/8 pants have seen action, and 20/25 tops. Bottoms get worn 4-5 times before having to be laundered, and tops from 1-4, depending on activity. 5 tops saw 4 wears each before going into the laundry basket..

*My thoughts on wear numbers and ‘wearing out’ has got me thinking that it isn’t the number of times a garment is worn that causes breakdown, so much as laundering. I have one pair of jeans that I’ve worn 16 times since the start of the year, however they have gone through the wash 3 times. If 30 ‘washes’ has a garment breaking down or looking tired, a garment that can be worn 3-4 times before laundering should get 100 wears! I can see how summer items, which might be laundered more frequently, might last 1 or two seasons, and how winter items, which might be laundered less, would last 3-5 or more years.
