SYC yields "old" ankle pants and possible options

I have these gray cotton ankle pants that I got 2 years ago at TJ Maxx for purely casual wear. While not super-tapered, they do have a definite taper and cuff and were intended as an alternative to the dreaded floppy-choppy-crops that were so prevalent. They're hard to roll higher due to the tapered hem, but they're above ankle as-is.

Now that ankle pants are so mainstream, along with more fluid fits, I think I will still really enjoy them for casual, but I'm also wondering if these just might be work-worthy ( for some days). Not sure due to the cotton fabric, which makes them like chino's. These are shown as-is with usual wash & wear, but I could press them for a better look, perhaps.

I've styled them with: gray textured knit top; reptile shell and AT cardi; and tucked in blouse, all with zebra slightly-pointy flats--all very neutral and tonal pieces that read more professional and dressy to me than colorful summer tops would, I think.

What do you think about length, fabrication, and overall look for a mid-summer work look? Thanks for looking, and any comments.

I vote yes! The length is great on these. Although I don't go to an office, I do wear ankle pants all Summer long for client appointments.

Anna, thank you for looking. I would not r/o a small edge or something, but it's almost paradoxical for m, style/wise-- a heel plus the tapered ankle pant reads more after- work to me than " hospital" so while no or low heels are mostly about comfort, it's also more " fancy" than my comfort Zone.

Unfrumped - I'd like to see the grey pants with a lighter shoe & belt for summer - still work appropriate IMO - perhaps in one of the lightest tones in the blouse?

These are a good crop length on you. I was thinking the same as Anna, though I do understand your concern with how that would read less hospital. I think a low wedge versus a proper spiked heel would be equally appropriate for your needs. Cotton, especially in a weight that's more substantial as these look, also seems summer appropriate to me. I really like that last look! The dressier supporting cast works very well with those pants.

I think these are work-worthy. They look very flattering on you!

I don't think that the flats look bad, but I agree that a low wedge might look better. And I like dustt's idea of a lighter-colored shoe and belt if possible. I feel like the belt in pic 3 is a little heavy looking for the outfit. Or maybe a skinnier belt, even in a dark color, would lighten things up too?

I like these much more than the pleated ones you posted the other day, but I have an aversion to pleats.

Dustt and Gigi, I like the idea if a narrower belt, and while I don't really want to go all the way to white, some kind of paler neutral would look good. I like staying kind of tonal, too high- contrast since I'm chopped up already. Shoes are more luck of the draw.

Good closet discovery! 1 and 3 are my favorite looks. Didn't you end up finding a lighter color oxford fairly recently - would they work? And I also seem to recall you finding something (a top?) in a 'moonbeam-ish' color at AT?

Yay, pil, the moonbeam camp shirt would also look good. It's high- low, but I would tuck in for work. I think the woven blouses look a little more formal, which is good.
