SYC resolve weakening

My will is weakening. It's finally staying above 50F in Seattle so I can think of spring clothes. But I'm trying to hold to SYC until the end of next month. I'm going to Austin to visit my uncle and they have a Zara.

I also worked 11 hours yesterday and have another long weekend of call ahead of me.
How do you stay on the straight and narrow?

Make a list of everything you want, absolutely everything. Then just sit on it and mark it off on the calendar when you can buy something from your list. Move them around in order, play with them, add new things.

Basically do everything except the buying part. It's hard, I know, but you can do it!

Hm, you have a long call ahead of you, right? Think of all the time you will have to be in scrubs, NOT wearing the sweatshirt. And then maybe think of going to the Austin Zara and not being able to get anything? I know I'm not the poster child for SYC...

I would start by going through your closet. You have a lot of amazing things, but sometimes favorites move to the front and other pieces are a bit neglected behind. Sometimes just playing in your closet can help you get ideas to do nwe and creative things with what you already have.

Also, with the changing weather, items you haven't worn for a bit are coming out, so that will feel fresh.

Do you rotate your closet between seasons? Can you start doing that a bit earlier this year?

I then would go with what Ceit said. Make a list of everything you want. I would then make a list of how it will play in your current wardrobe, what capsules you will incorporate it into, and start prioritizing.

Once you have that done, you can give yourself a dollar amount to play with and a date you are allowed to start playing.

The end of next month is the end of April, so 5 weeks away. Once you have the planning done above, I think you will be closer to that goal and it may be easier.

I don't look and that way I'm not tempted. I don't browse online or look in catalogs when I know I can't buy anything.

It is an awesome top. I just looked around for it and I found it on the UK Topshop website for 100 pounds (although it is only in grey). By principle the cost differentiation from one country ($260 US) to another makes me so frustrated (when it is that substantial), I would no longer want to buy it.

I am not the best person to ask (and yet I respond!). But what has been keeping me out of the stores is a seriously crammed schedule. Then for the a hour or so I have free, I think about all the laundry and dishes I have to do... then I feel tired and watch more Dexter on t.v. instead of doing anything...

its hard to stay strong! A "ban" on computer browsing might help.
I like the list idea, giving yourself a treat to look forward to

For the Mr & myself, if we make any extra money from Freelance, overtime, ebay etc. it can go in a special shopping fund....fun money. the ebay also helps make room in my closet for the new items

Muster all your willpower! Our Zara is in a beautiful outdoor shopping center with lots of shops to buy pretty things! : )

Distract your cravings by playing in your closet to compile all the spring/summer outfits you can wear in Austin.

Does that mean Meet-up time in April?

I would look at myself in the mirror. I know I can be an emotional shopper (more chocolate bar and a magazine then Prada but hey). I would ask myself what emotion is driving this desire and then tell myself I am strong enough to withstand it.

I find it hard to resist, but I did make an inventory of my clothing expenses for the month, and will be tallying that up this weekend. I think even just by tracking, I have been shopping less. I think Roseand is on to something...maybe you are bummed or anxious about your upcoming heavy workload and want to buy to have a little fun before all the drudge? It is a very nice shirt, by the way, but maybe overpriced? Who needs that? Zara will have some good deals. Hold firm.

Um, mostly what Ceit said, but add in all the hours of your (and my) life that is spent in uniform. Surely you (and I) have enough great clothing to wear for the few days a week we can dress in our off hours?

Oh, I sooo understand Anna! I experience something very similar quite often, especially after long work hours - did 56 h in three days last week and that was no fun And I ended up ordering the lace sweatshirt afterwards. What I find helps me is to have some source of fun and relaxation that has nothing to do with clothes, is easily accessible and affordable. Currently I am into playing a particular video game, online version of " Settlers of Catan" ( I know, very geeky, but I am a geek after all).

This reminds me of my Thermofix sweatshirt from Zara. It is expensive for Topshop. Maybe it's a typo? It should be more like $160 given the exchange rate.

Hold out for Zara. Or, order from Zara on line now, ship to the store, and you can try it on it right there. You have to return store purchases to a store, but you can return on-line purchases to a store or on-line. So you can't return store purchases on-line. This is a problem for me because if I buy something from Zara in SF or LA, then change my mind, I am stuck with the item. So I find this to be the best method. Then I can return either on line or to a store.

(Sorry if you were looking for SYC inspiration rather than shopping strategy!)
