SYC ~ I crashed and burned!!!

I've failed!! The pictured shoes bought about my demise!
As some of you may remember from early summer I had an intense desire for clogs! I managed to find a fab pair of low white ones but my heart still ached for some heeled ones. Not too high and preferably in black.

Well I forgot to cancel the updates Ebay allow you to subscribe to when something fitting what you want is put up for sale. So these popped up on my email a few days ago and I'm sorry but I couldn't resist bidding. A genuine pair of caterpillar clogs only worn once which I ended up paying £26 for including postage and packing!

I'm still proud to say I managed 42 days SYCing and I shall still be cutting way back as I still have the vets bill to come x

And at least you know, the vet bill is an excellent reason to continue on - I see you simply becoming more discerning now in the long term as a result of the things you've learned here you know!

I'm curious to hear how comfy these shoes are - I've been a bit scared of clogs because I was thinking a wooden sole would hurt?

I've found my white pair to be remarkably comfy. I can manage a work day in them (7 hours) though my feet do ache by the end of the day. I work with kids so on my feet most of the day. These have a padded heel sticker which I may have to remove as it feels funny under foot. I don't think the sole on these is wooden it looks like wood effect plastic I'll keep you all posted how I get on with them x

I'm an extremely good example of the guillable people stores love to email!! It's like when Clinique offer 'free' gifts when you buy 2 items, I only go in for 1 but am TOTALLY drawn in by the freebie and end up buying 2!!!!!! x

Great find! Sounds like you took a lot away from the challenge - and 42 days is nothing to sneeze at! Let us know how your shopping habits continue, and hope all goes well with kitty.

I'm with Queenie and the others. My first thought when reading your post before reading replies was: OK, so start the clock ticking on the SYC challenge today and just start the challenge anew. That is, if you want to ~ and it sounds like you do!

Nice clogs! I have three pairs ~ a closed back pair of Professional Danskos, open back Eccos, and Dansko sandals (not really clogs but still have that clog-like sole). Love them all! I can go all day in each of them.

Louise - I don't know how you approached SYC, but it seems to me that when this is something you had been looking and waiting for, and it shows up and you get it. It isn't the same as abandoning SYC just because you see something you want. Does that make sense?

It's more like the YLFers who had a few specific criteria attached to the challenge. They just personalized it. . . So, there is no need to eat that whole box of cookies

I'm impressed with 42 days. I don't know how long I could hold out on a syc although I should. If its something you were already looking for, I wouldn't even count it as a slip up.

Ouch!! they gave me blisters ;-( I know, I know it serves me right for breaking the challenge. Though I guess a 3 hour shopping trip in new shoes is not the best idea I've ever had!!! x

first off, congrats on getting such cute clogs. i am determined to give this trend a miss, but those clogs are fab! is it black? on my monitor it has a yummy greenish blue color.

Louise I technically failed my buying hiatus too...I ended up finding xtra funds, but spent them! However, having challenged myself, I did something I hadn't done for a very long time, not spend money for clothes for nearly 7 weeks. I also don't feel bad for how I spent the money because it was so well-thought out and things that I really needed.

I think you should feel good about how much you did, and decide whether or not to get back on the wagon. Remember it's an experiment not a mandate...maybe some would disagree with that, though! So perhaps it's more about what we are learning in the process than trying to white knuckle our way through.

Hugs, Louise. I've already decided that, while this is a great exercise in discipline, next time I take on such a long challenge I'm going to allow maybe a max of three purchases for something I've been looking for before the challenge or for emergency replacement of a necessity. You have not made a frivolous purchase. Jump back on and enjoy your shoes all the more.

Oh please don't say you "failed", you have in no way done that. I agree that you should go on !!!! Imagine, you only buy a couple of great things in 5 months ! How is that a failure ???

I agree with everyone - this is one small purchase. You have stayed on track for a long time and if you enjoyed the experience, then keep going with us. No one is going to worry about one little pair of clogs

Nice clogs Lou Lou, they have been on your wish list forever, so I do not see this as failure rather a minor misdemeanor. You even owned up to your crime.
