SYC - Contemplating cheating already gulp

Okay, I took Laura's advice about screening all of my emails from retailers during my SYC project. However, I didn't think about Carissa Rose on my facebook feed.

Well, Carissa just announced via Facebook that certain styles of her shirts are going dramatically on sale down from their original price as they are discontinuing the styles.

I REALLY would like the Emma shirt in cognac and there is one in my size for $60. I've been quite impressed with the quality of Carissa's shirts (and have worn both of my other Carissa blouses this week) and really was hoping to scoop up this color, but didn't count on it being discontinued. Sales and discounts at Carissa Rose are not very frequent so this is kind of a big deal.

So... SYCers, what's the verdict? Am I justified in cheating just once, or is this a very slippery slope? I haven't purchased anything yet.

Okay, I am not a SYCer, but I personally don't see what would be wrong with this. It's a unique situation that probably won't come up again, and you wear the Carissa shirts you currently have a lot and will get use out of this one as well.

I guess it comes down, in part, to why you are SYC in the first place. If it's just to appreciate what you have more, does buying that shirt really hurt anything? If it's because you purchase a lot of things and want to save for bigger ticket items, this again seems like a reasonable exception.

This is probably why I could never commit to something like SYC. I go months without buying anything because I just don't see anything I want or need, but when I do, especially if it were a good deal or filled a wardrobe hole, I wouldn't be able to pass it up. Good luck making the right decision for you!

Oh, darn it. It's out of stock already. I guess the website wasn't totally up to date on which sizes had sold out. Just wasn't meant to be, I guess!

I was hesitant to enable but this does sound like a unique opportunity. If I were in your shoes, I would definitely make a purchase.

I am not SYCer either, but here it is - run and get it! Then go back to SYC and hide the shirt until you are done and just decrease your clothing shopping amount for the first after SYC spree.

Oh, Kari - this is how I was about the Fluevogs - they're so rarely on sale and something I covet non-stop. Sounds like the decision was made for you. I think for me SYC is more about not finding excuses to justify new stuff I've just seen. This is why I've gave myself a pass on buying certain items like the seamed skirt, because they were on my list of "to-gets" and that hole was not filled at the time of SYC.

I think if you had a known wardrobe hole that you know must be filled, it's not in the SYC spirit to pass up a bargain you'll have to buy anyway at full price later.

Does that make sense or am I rambling?

Sorry to hear that it's already out of stock. But I am with Steph! This is exactly why I don't commit to such strict diets. It makes much more sense to stick to a realistic budget and not have to feel guilty each time you contemplate a purchase.

Kari, looks like the decision was made for you.
My opinion about this kind of situation is that it depends of how you will deal with the excuses you give yourself. For me if I do something with a perfect valid excuse I tend to go ahead and make more valid excuses until I'm totally out of control, but if you think that you have a necessity ( a real one) that can be satisfied and go back on track just go ahead.
I can support you either way but you're the one that has to know your own limits.

Keep in mind *why* you are SYC'ing and then make the decision accordingly. We are all doing it for different reasons.

In my mind I'm not buying anything new (or used) for 3 months for several reasons. One is to see where (if any) holes exist in my wardrobe and then decide if I want to fill them at the end of month 3. Two is to cut out the endless shopping cycle I've gotten into in the last year since I've lost weight. I was actually *bored* on Saturday because that's what I usually do, go shopping. I'm thinking of volunteering my Saturdays instead now, I need something productive to do with them.

Three is just to see if I *can* do it. I like a challenge and a 3 month SYC seemed like a good one!

So for my reasons I would have to pass up anything that came up even at a fabulous sale! LOL

Sorry it didn't come in your size but other blouses *will* come along. It's not like they are going to stop making all blouses forever and ever while we quit shopping...(is it?) LOL

Well, perhaps I can reward myself with a new full price Carissa Rose blouse after the SYC ends.
(It's not the end of the world either - I got a lovely blue striped CR blouse for a Christmas present this year, and scored some Classiques Entier silk blouses on sale from Nordstrom Rack a few months ago, so it's not like I am going to go blouseless in the meantime!)

Aww, that you missed it!

I really think that unless you have a prevailing reason for a total ban (i.e. Laura's work assignment), or you are looking for the personal challenge of total resistance, then you have probably cleared your head enough to recognize these incredible situations and could really savor them! Especially when this perfect purchase is the only one you're making. . .
