SYC Checking In

Hi,

Just in case, checking in on another week of SYC. If you fell off the wagon, you can jump back on for the remaining 3 weeks. If you have been on all along, any new insights? More than halfway now.

As I've posted elsewhere, I totally fell (jumped!) off the wagon and stocked up for spring. But I am back on for the remaining weeks.

I have not bought a single thing since Jan. 2. BUT, as I posted earlier, I went on a major shopping spree with my mom, so I received a lot of gifts....

Mary-I am no better. I went looking for jeans, and ended up with a scarf from Gap. Then I wandered into Nordstrom, oh boy. But overall I went from shopping 3-4 or more times a week, to twice a month for this round of SYC. So I am pretty happy with my decrease in shopping days. I suppose I like to shop too much to stop completely for a few months. Or my wardrobe just hasn't hit the "I'm happy enough to not shop" point yet. Yet I've been wearing more of my wardrobe than ever before and trying new combination's I would never have thought of. If I didn't see an easy outfit I would just go buy one. Now I remix until I find a combination I am willing to go out in public with.

You know, Lisa, I think that this weekend I hit the "I'm happy enough not to shop" point. I just let myself go and bought a bunch of great stuff (a lot of it at the thrift store so the damage wasn't TOO bad) and I feel like I am beautifully fixed for pretty much everything I need to get me well into the summer, including shoes and undies and accessories. I felt like I was really building a spring wardrobe instead of just randomly shopping, you know? And it felt pretty good.

I think I'm at that happy point....so I haven't been tempted to go shopping. If for some reason I need to go shopping for something other than clothes I can't guarantee I'd go home without clothes.

Since the cognac boots I have abstained. I'll admit it's both hard and easy not being able to wear what I have. On the one hand, I can just coast with house bound clothes, on the other, I am dreaming of all the possibilities and have plenty of time to let my fingers do the surfing. For now, I have an eBay bid for a woven red wrap shirt but may or may not win it. And I have pink chiffon still on the mind since the last shirt attempt didn't work out. So, some things in the watch list, but nothing concrete purchased yet for the month

I'm still shopping my budget. I found the next size down in my favorite David Kahn's on ebay last week for under $20 including shipping! I was very excited. I also picked up a brass bracelet and two pendants at the swap meet this weekend (thank you hubby!). Now I just need to get some chain to wear them on.
I had a little freak out over the weekend when I went shopping with dd and couldn't find any tops. But, doing the weekly outfit line up challenge opened my eyes to the fact that most of my clothes still fit, and that I have plenty of things to get me through the short spring. I'm feeling more settled now, and back to just replacing basics as they get too big.

Mellllls -I do not like empty handed syndrome after shopping and tend to avoid it.

Mo-You are in a great position to remix your wardrobe into new ideas for when you are back on your feet. Sometimes I spend an hour or two on the weekends doing just that, remixing in my closet.

I'm still a "pure" SYC - no falling off, not even once. Now that March has arrived though, I must admit that I am more tempted than I was in January and February. I "feel" as though I don't have any clothes for spring - but the operative word is "feel." I don't really know if that it true or not - so, I am continuing to SYC in order to really discover just what is in my wardrobe. There are still pieces of clothing/shoes/accessories that I have not yet introduced myself to - so . . . SYC continues on for me!

I'm doing good! But I'm only in my 5th day of SYC and this is hard! I admire you! I don't buy anything, no clothes, no make-up! Today I went to the hairdresser but that doesn't count, isn't that right?? Hope not because my hair was a mess already!
