Switzerland in August

I am going to Switzerland for a business trip next week. Thought guys on how to dress for the weather? I have never been there before. Thanks!

Where are you? When I went there from Ohio one August, I thought the weather was very much the same. But it's easy to pull up weather forecasts for the place you're going.

When I have been there it was cool and rainy. A trench or utility waterproof coat would be good. I needed to shop for warmer shoes than sandals and bought wool socks and a light weight wool sweater. Check the weather on-line before you go.

It should be quite sunny and hot, there may be some showers but I don't think it will be overcast for too long.

I would tend to wear smart casual, and take a jacket, and layers. May be a pashmina. I would also take an umbrella and a waterproof with a hood. I would also take some trainers, as there may be an opportunity for walking. I really enjoyed walking as you can take a cable car to the mountain top and then walk along closely cropped well sign posted grass paths.

Thanks all for your input. Great suggestion for rain gear. I always bring an umbrella but hadn't thought to pack a trench in August!
Fashiontern- I am coming from the Northeast (so summer).
Jane- sadly it's all business so I won't be able to do anything fun unless I can get it done between 6-10 pm.

I am not sure about the weather in August, but my experience in Switzerland is that people tend to be more dressy and polished than what is typical in the U.S. I would tend to think you should be prepared for some cool evenings and possibly no air conditioning at work.

You can have a lot of fun in those four hours, especially in the longer European summer days! A short hike to a restaurant & funicular or similar ride down after sunset, dinner by a lake or on a boat, dinner in the old city part of town and a stroll to watch buskers later, outdoor music or plays, a museum that has a late night. If "fun" for you means shopping, you'll want to find out store hours and if there is an evening every week when they stay open later. Do your research this weekend & then be flexible.
