Swapping summer for winter in the closet today (I just like playing with my clothes). Spurred on by huge rain yesterday (power outage and bakery flooded).

I note that I basically wore none of my summer clothes this year. It’s tempting just to chuck it all. But the climate is so variable, I suppose summer will come again one day...

I did this back in September, at least the hardcore summer clothes. Took all the maxi dresses and linen pants and such off their hangers and neatly Konmari-folded them into the drawer. Then a few weeks ago I moved the sleeveless dressy blouses and spring-weight/color blazers to back of closet, and moved heavier fall/winter/long sleeve stuff to front. I've got my formal stuff in the guest closet. Should probably move that back in since the season is upon us......

I also love playing in my closet! I feel like I'm in there constantly editing and moving things around and optimizing how things are organized.

Climate change is REAL.

Plenty of places to wear summer clothing next year if you venture out a bit further:)

Oh no! I tortured poor Lilypup. It was pouring. At 2 am she banged on the door. There was a pause in the rain. So we went out but I was paranoid and wouldn’t go far. Our roles are reversed!

I’m always in my closet too, shiny, moving stuff. I don’t know why I love it so much. I keep my closet doors open so I can just look inside and think about it, lol.

I love playing with my clothes too, unfortunately I have some stashed around and forget them but when I dig them out, it’s like Christmas, lol.
Although admittedly, it’d be more fun to be able to easily recall where everything is!

I did this before leaving for Africa a little over a month ago, and did a little editing, but now that I’m home, I bet I could find more to edit.

I missed fall entirely. It was warm and rainy right through most of October, then we went to a place where we had summer for a month (including temps of 107 at the bush camp, with no AC!), and got home to freezing temps. I feel like a good portion of my wardrobe is going unworn this fall, but I’m not getting rid of things that go unworn for that reason. Only ditching them if they don’t fit or I don’t like them anymore.

Rachylou I see you are in NorCal too. This rain sure makes it feel like summer will never come again. But you know the weather here is totally unpredictable and plus there’s all these little microclimates. What if you go wine tasting in Napa next summer? What will you wear then without your summer clothes? Don’t dump your summer stuff because the minute you give it up, you’ll need it! It’s true! :).

More closet love, but I keep all my stuff out all the time - with the exception of overcoats. Summer was hot, and we had only 2 weeks of fall weather before the puffers and wool coats had to come out. The front closet has been set up for winter for a month now.

RL, do you work at an artisan place or an industrial bakery? DS #2 is a 'mixer' at a big bakery that makes cookies and cakes.

Yes, that’s how I can make summer return guaranteed - give away all my summer clothes (!) Lol. Yeah, I’ll hang on to them... but there better be some summer next summer!

That’s cool, Carla! I work at an artisan bakery, but we’re like a micro plant. We do distribute wholesale. We’re close to having people divided up into mixers, sheeter operators, oven operators, etc., but not quite. There are things we do that take a rolling pin and one person does from start to finish.

Except... I’m thinking, Janet, of ditching tank tops. They’re not a staple any more. Can’t even remember what I used to do with them. I also sunburn too easily now... and I don’t think that’s me, I think that’s climate change.

Wait, what? I thought your wardrobe extended throughout the whole house. How can you fit one entire season’s worth of clothing in a closet?

When our stuff got here a couple weeks ago, I packed our summer clothes away, except there are still bits showing up in, for example, the hand laundry. Too bad that suitcase is at the bottom of the stack, lol.

On leaving closet doors open to enjoy the view: I am pretty pleased with myself for the way I have everything arranged here, but spend plenty of time (ie way too much time) fantasizing about the closet perfectly suited to my needs that I’m going to set up.

Rachy, that reminds me -- I have a little collection of layering tank tops that I rarely ever use anymore. I use the two black ones and that's it. I have stopped buying sheer tops so rarely need them. Maybe those should go on the next edit.

Our summer was "grotty" as Angie puts it, but because it felt like it rained 90% of the time. The best summer we had was the last two weeks in South Africa! Highs in the 70s, lows in the 50s, lots of sunshine and a little rain, a little wind. Now THAT's my kind of weather.

I have to do this for every single season. I do a small switch out for shoulder seasons, which are about 2 months long here, and then a big one for full-on winter or summer. It gets tiring. I do have a small capsule of items that can work all year - jeans, sneakers, sleeveless blouses or tee shirts that can be layered, and cardigans that I need for the office air conditioning as well as winter. The process is tiring.

Due to climate change, you may want to keep a few items you didn't use. You just never know when you'll get a randomly hot summer. I have to do the same with a few very heavy sweaters, as every so often we have a frigid winter.
