Swimwear for the Small of Bust

Hi! I'm new to YLF, and I'm afraid you have already discussed this topic somewhere and I overlooked it when I searched. I read your great advice about finding bras for small busts and Angie's suggestions for how to flatter a rectangular figure, but I'm still not sure what to do when it comes to beach gear. I'm like a AA, so the V- and scoop-necks of most bikini tops and scoop-necks alike expose waaay to much nothing. Does anyone share this predicament or have advice for me?

(Although my stomach is luckily as flat as my chest, I'm not so sure I'm ready to display it to all sundry...although a sexy enough bikini might convince me.)

I do share your predicament (ie small busted) but no real advice as I have not bought swimwear (apart from racing bathers) for , hmmm maybe 10 years!

I'm afraid I have the opposite problem to you and have no helpful advice to contribute, just wanted to welcome you to the forum. I'm sure the less well-endowed ladies will have you sorted in no time.
Angie did do a few posts on swimwear some time ago. There are six posts under the swimwear category on the main page. None of the entries directly address your dilemma, but maybe you'll get some styling ideas from there until more specific advice is at hand.

That's a pretty cozzie if you have narrow or regular shoulders. It won't work that well if you're broad in the shoulder.

Thanks so much for your welcome, Michelle, and for your suggestion, wilson! That's an awfully nice top--I'd tend to be a bit of a ruffles skeptic, but J Crew makes them classy as can be!

In answer to your questions, Angie, part of the problem was that I wasn't sure what to search for. What I thought I was looking for was a higher neckline (in a one-piece); most of the advice I'd been able to find re bikini tops advocated "frills and ruffles", and, although wilson's suit may make a convert of me yet, I'm not a very frilly kind of gal...(ok, so maybe the problem isn't just that I'm small-busted, but that I'm small-busted AND picky!)

As for the shoulders, I don't know...since I'm so small, I'd never really given much thought to whether particular parts of me are relatively broad. Looks like they measure 14 or 14.5 from end to end, while the rest of my dimensions are 31-on-a-good-day-23-33. Does that mean anything? If I am broad in the shoulders, are there more general rules about tops I should avoid? (Hope not, because I'm getting low on options!!)

Although I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum (large chested), I second the recommendation to look at J. Crew. I think a bandeau style top looks good on women with smaller chests, and it has the added plus of ensuring you won't have any tan lines on your shoulders! It's the same idea as the one that Wilson posted, just a variation. Also, some website will actually allow you to search based on "body type," and "small chest" is sometimes an option. I can't think of any off of the top of my head, but maybe if you start looking at some websites you will come across that.

Victoria's secret have some really great ones for smaller busts, My favorite was always the miracle bra range (particularly the retro halter push up) http://www2.victoriassecret.co.....rfnbr=1060. You could also try their new Miraculous bikini http://www2.victoriassecret.co.....rfnbr=1777 which is also meant to be very good.

I have also tried Ultimo http://www.ultimo.co.uk/shop/swim & although they don't have a huge range of styles, I find their bikinis to be a little more modest than Victoria's secret.

I'm right there with you in the tiny bust range, now made even more difficult because most higher tops also have very high cut bottoms that are no longer attractive. I do best with molded cups as opposed to underwire. Surprisingly, strapless often looks better than straps, but not if you have little ones hanging on you who may pull it down! The The Lands End people and I had a nice chat resulting in that they have nothing small enough that isn't a bikini or high cut leg. I've often found that a bandeau style actually flattens my breasts rather than look filled out, but there are probably some good ones out there.
