SWIM bottoms - YouLookFab Forum

I’m happy with the swimsuits I got earlier this year for playing on the beach and in the waves, hanging out in the hot tub, etc, but they are not suitable for swim workouts. I’m shopping my favorite site for workout wear for bottoms that will stay on. Next to the two-piece training suits from Arena, Tyr, Speedo, and other familiar brands, my two favorites are from a brand I’ve never heard of, Funkita.

It’s apparently Australian. The size chart has me right between two sizes that are smaller than the size number I wore in high school. Before ordering anything that’s final sale, I want to make sure it will stay with me, even through those full underwater pullouts. Have you heard of Funkita swimwear? Thanks in advance for your help!

Those look skimpy to me for laps. I've worn bikinis for lap swimming, with high neck halter style tops and full cut bottoms.

Suntiger, so the brand is new to you as well? Idk for sure what you mean by “full cut”, but the tyr suit I used to have, as well as many training suits by the well-known brands I listed, have bottoms that are roughly similar to this. For example https://m.swimoutlet.com/p/spe.....r_1_mobile

I could pick one of those, but I’m looking for bottoms to go with a top I already have. I’m sure the drawstrings help, but expect that it really depends on fine details that are hard to pick up in a pic like this. That’s why I’m hoping to find people familiar with the brand.

This is what their site says about these cuts—but what labels say about themselves doesn’t necessarily match up to people’s experiences.
A moderate coverage brief with drawcord and single front lining makes it perfect for the beach and training.
And
Sports brief with drawcord and flat elastic waistband. Moderate leg rise and rear coverage.
Just like high rise jeans at one label are not the same as high rise jeans at another, leading people to compare notes with others who’ve bought the same model, I’m looking for comments on this brand by people who are familiar with it.

I don't know this Australian swimwear brand - I do know Seafolly.

I bet some of the Australian Fabbers can help out more accurately.

Thanks Angie. I know Australian surf brands like Roxy are good, so I’m crossing my fingers that Australian Forum members will have good things to say about this brand too. Swimming is not surfing, but they are at least cousins. The patterns are really cute, but they’ve got to go the distance in the pool too.

Sorry FI - I haven't encountered this brand before - no advice from me I'm afraid. And I always swim trained in one pieces too!

According to their size guide, I'd fit a Aus 10 on the bottom. Sometimes in actuality in normal clothes I'd wear an 8 despite what size guides say, but sometimes with swimwear I have to size up. Really don't know if that helps at all!.

Sorry I have not heard of Funkita either, but I am not a swimmer and only swim on hot days at the beach or at the pool on holiday. Like Anne, I generally size up one size in swimwear. Australian sizing is usually two numbers bigger than the US counterpart. So I am a US size 4 or Aus size 8 and am between the Aus 8/10 in swimwear and generally need to try things on to get the fit right.

Anne & Bijou, thanks for chiming in. I guess I’ll have to try a couple (non final sale) pieces and then I’ll be the Funkita expert.

Going up a size in swimsuits generally is a modest move, but having your pants at your knees is not modest, lol.

On 2-piece training suits—I’ve only ever had one, which I gave to my sister because the straps were too short and not adjustable. The style might be growing though; I happened to see a swim team practicing last fall, and many of the girls wore 2-piece suits. One reason I want one is that I’ve never had a tan belly and have decided that this summer, I want one. Trying to get it is funny, because the rest of my skin is so much more sun-sensitive that I have to slather the sunscreen on my arms & décolleté or they’d fry in the half hour I sit in the sunshine.
