Sweatshirts and pencil skirts....a new love

An Angie and YLF inspiration that makes my heart sing. I pulled out my spring/ summer pencil skirts and a few sweatshirts. I do think I will be able to wear this combo. Here are some photos, so you can judge. Clearly, my Airplane Mode sweatshirt is my favorite.......

1,2, 3. with knit pencil skirts with Airplane Mode sweatshirt and flats
4. split hem with ruffle sweatshirt and split hem striped skirt
5. Airplane Mode with split hem skirt and fringed booties
6. bell sleeved sweatshirt with nautical skirt and sneakers
7. Black denim skirt with boxy sweatshirt and shoe options
8. Long blue midi with bell sleeved sweatshirt, probably needs a semi tuck and maybe a belt and shoe options. It is hard to see details in this pic

10. an outfit I can wear this week with tights. The sweatshirt is a very light weight and drapes nicely. I think the grommets and the boots give the outfit some edge. I think I will semi tuck it and add an animal print belt. Even though this is a sweatshirt I won’t hesitate to wear it to work. Somehow the look is more polished than my other sweatshirts.

I think the casual vibe of the sweatshirts is going to make for fabulous weekend and out and about options. Do you think I can wear any of the combos to work? Is a sweatshirt only destined to be worn for super casual times? Maybe sweatshirts without lettering? I will be adding jewlery to all of these outfits....more pieces if going to work, fewer pieces for spring and summer outings.

These are fun! Love #10 and I would think that could be for work. Overall I agree that for work the shirts with words seem a bit too casual. Love the striped skirt combo too.

If I do any winter wear refreshing, it will be sweatshirts! You really make this look appealing. It may be hard to find just the right sweatshirts. The local breweries probably have some good designs but their wear would be limited. Do I really want to turn up at a Binle study advertising a hoppy IPA?

That air plane sweatshirt is really versatile isn’t it,it goes amazing well with all the different outfits that you have styled.The only thing I’m not so keen on is the ankle boots with the skirt.I m not sure why,maybe the colour but I prefer the flats.

I love this idea. I have actually been looking for a "decent" sweatshirt for a few years now, but can't find a single one! Colours are wrong, graphic isn't "me", etc etc. Thought I had one in the fall but they sent the wrong thing, and it was sold out by the time it arrived. I considered your airplane mode... my size is gone

Anyway... enough whining. You have some awesome options here, and I think you're really going to enjoy wearing them. Share when you do! Oh, and I want to see #10 on you SOON.

These are great! I've been trying to get this ensemble to work for me and haven't come up with a combination that works yet. I would wear the Airplane Mode sweatshirt to work, but my work is on the casual side of business casual.

OMG! I decided to go on a sweatshirt hunt (which I do monthly) and the one that got messed up last fall... is BACK! In my size!

Thank you all. I do think I am going to have some fun wearing these and June is always a cool month, so I am sure to get some summer wears.

JAileen, I think the puffin is fun, too. It is the logo for our plumbing and heating company (after all, one doesn’t see too many puffins carrying wrenches). Here is a pic of the back of the sweatshirt. It is not subtle.

I love all of these looks especially the graphic tees. If weather allows, layering with collared shirt makes it really work appropriate.

These are great!
Wirk wear is tougher. To dress down a pencil skirt but still for work, I usually think either of wearing a sweatshirt- like style but in luxe neutral fabrics, or a fluid or boxy sweater. I’d have to save the true graphics and the mire sweatshirt- looking ones for other occasions.
Your school sweatshirt might be “ allowed” but might make you feel like an 8th grader! But might work for specific days like school spirit events.

These are all really fun. 10 certainly looks reasonable for a school setting. Honestly I think any of the solid-colour tops could pass muster, but then the schools over here are super-casual. I love the idea of a bell-sleeved sweatshirt!

La Pedestrienne, our school can be fairly casual. I am not a fancy dresser, but am often more “dressed up” than many of my colleagues. My solid colored sweatshirts with pencil skirts might be just fine for the classroom. The challenge for me comes when I have meetings with parents or other professionals. I want to make sure I have a certain level of professional polish then. Yes, the bell sleeves with a bow tie are so much fun!!
