Sweater Questions - YouLookFab Forum

Hello all!

Due to various reasons, I recently tossed most of my clothes, I am redoing my wardrobe from scratch. It is chilly and I need some sweaters and tops, ASAP!

I have shopped for tops and am nervous about buying some of the oversized sweaters, dolman sleeves, dropped shoulder types I'm not sure I am comfy with these styles yet. I don't even know if I can identify them yet.

On a whim, I ordered this medium Vince colorblock sweater top and I am uncertain about the fit. I'd appreciate any opinions and explanations as I muddle through learning how to shop for my body. My husband and I thought it wasn't a good fit, but maybe this is how it is supposed to fit and I need to train my eye . I could exchange for a small, but I thought the shoulder line was fine on this medium (maybe I am wrong?)

I am still uncertain about the difference between oversized vs. fluid sweaters and how they are supposed to fit. Any advice would be appreciated.

If it helps, I *think* I am an hourglass shape, 39/28.5/39, with shoulders at about 40.5 inches. 34DD bra. If you think I am otherwise, please let me know! Excuse the wonky eye picture.

To my eye it looks nicely fluid and not too oversized. I love the shape and side view. You are the one who will wear it though, so go with your instincts.

I don't know how oversized/fluid stuff is supposed to properly fit either, but what I do when I don't know how something is supposed to fit is I try to find it online at a retailer where it is shown on a model. Then I can get an idea whether I am in the ballpark or not.

That makes sense. One hesitation would be that I'm not quite shaped like most of the models. I'm leaning against the oversized trend but I need to see more examples on how to do it right for my body type.

From what I can see, the sweater has a high-low hem and is supposed to have a fluid fit. It looks lovely on you! As far as the oversized trend goes, remember that you don't have to adopt a way of dressing just because it's trending. I can appreciate the oversized tops and bottoms trend on everyone else, but it just isn't for me. I prefer a more tailored look.

Thanks for the reminder. I need to remember that I don't have to dress that way because it is on trend. OTOH, these types of items are the ones that I am seeing the most when I've shopped for tops recently. I figured I'd give it a whirl and see if I could make it work for me.
