Sweater - next to the skin?

When I wear a sweater, I normally wear one with a polo or crew neck, but occassionally a "V" neck. I always wear my sweaters without a T-shirt or anything under. Some of my friends are surprised that I wear my sweaters next to the skin. What do other think?

Is it cashmere? That would be nice and soft. Regular wool would be too scratchy for me.

If you are comfortable, it shouldn't matter to your friends.

I wear undershirts just so that I won't have to wash sweaters as often, but it's just a personal choice.

I wear a cammy depending on the itch factor and also to keep the sweater clean a bit long, but if you feel comfortable then don't mind what your friends say.

Why not wear a sweater next to your skin? If it's nice soft material and not itchy I don't know why you wouldn't, unless it's to avoid dry cleaning bills. I hand wash mine anyway, so that's not an issue. I love the feeling of cashmere next to my skin, and I like the smoother line of a sweater without a layer underneath.

The only reason I wouldn't is if it 1) itched or 2) the sweater is hard to clean. Things next to your skin need to be cleaned more often, because sweat and body oils (which all of us have, no matter how clean or sweet-smelling we keep ourselves) eat fabric. I say follow what makes you feel fab. Softy sweaters next to the skin can be very satisfying!

I usually layer under for warmth more than anything! If it's cold enough for a sweater, it's likely cold enough to put on a tee or cami too. Even nice, big chunky knits can have some space between the weave where wind blows right in - brrr!

I always layer a tank, cami, or thin long-sleeved tee under sweaters--even in the spring and summer. I like the coverage (to prevent bra lines or if I bend over with a V-neck), and it saves on washing. But if you're happy, why change?

I rarely wear layers under my sweaters, unless it's quite cold or I feel like doing some distinctive layering (like a button up shirt or something). I always look for soft sweaters

I also rarely layer under a sweater. But I can see the point of it for several reasons~

I don't like sweaters that make me itch, so I usually wear sweaters next to the skin too. I'll sometimes layer a cami under it if I'm cold or, like Velma mentioned, if I'm worried that the sweater is thin enough to show bra lines. But I definitely don't think it's weird to wear a sweater with no layering.

I'm another almost never. I don't really layer much on the whole, so putting something - especially something visible - under a sweater is rarely done. I think if I do it, it's just for warmth.

That is an interesting question!
I say if wearing the sweater and nothing else is your thing, do it! Silky wool on skin is very sexy.
I also usually wear a cami for the same reasons as Kari, Velma, Mo and Ironkurtin.

Yes, I normally wear woolen sweaters. I am used to the feel of wool next to my skin so I don't find them itchy.

I wear sweaters next to my skin and also with a layering piece. I don't like how "bulky" shirt look under mine so I have cut several into "dickies". I hate anything that itches so most wools are not for me. Of course cashmere is nice!

I don't think it's strange at all to wear a sweater without a layer underneath. For me, it depends on the sweater and the occasion. Sometimes, if it's a comfortable sweater, I'll wear it alone, but some of my sweaters look and feel better with a shirt layered underneath -- sometimes a tee, sometimes a button-front.

Dont worry-I plan to wear my red cashmere pullover next to my skin today for work. With a pencil skirt. You can do whatever you please.

I've learned to stay away from buying sweaters that itch - coarse wool and arcyrlic - no thank you! Even if I wore a long-sleeved fitted pure cotton tee underneath, I'd still feel the ickiness on my neck and wrists. I need absolute comfort in my clothes. ALL of my sweaters are cotton or a blend of cashmere/rayon/cotton. Once I had a gorgeous red sweater dress that looked cotton but was arcrylic and it just hung in my closet, never worn once.

If your sweater is itch-free, not a problem! I love a cotton sweater next to my skin!

I never buy wool sweaters - they're really not needed in this climate anyway - so all my sweaters are washable. Depending on the neckline I will wear them alone or with something underneath. Usually the v-necks require something underneath because they're pretty low.

If it's a cotton sweater, I wear it as a top, otherwise I always wear something under sweaters!
