Sweater clean out - part 1 - YouLookFab Forum

The final part of my mega closet clean out is devoted to sweaters - I left them for the end beacuse there is the most work to be done with them and I have a lot of them. I also find this the most difficult - I have a bunch of them that are flattering fit and color, good condition, yet I still hardly ever wear them - maybe because I find them boring or something.

So I have put around 10 of them in the donate bag, and have about 15 or so that I am unsure about. Since there are so many I am dividing them into a couple of posts. Btw, please feel free to completely skip these sweater posts of mine since I can imagine that by now you all may very well be tired of my clean out posts.

So here are the first 6, the first two cropped cardis I actually really like and want to keep, but am looking for ideas on how to wear them. Of course, let me know if you think I shouldn't keep them in the first place. If you prefer to look at the whole album at once, here's the link to that:

Hi Tanya,

I dont have any ideas on the cropped cardis--they are very pretty though. Does the first one have sequence? If so, I'd imagine the sequence makes it difficult to wear, no?

I don't care much for the striped silk cardi. It's a little too sporty for your style, and the buttons are pulling a little bit.

I think the sleeves on the light blue sweater may be a tad too short.

I like all the others.

Tanya, the cropped sweaters seem a little dated to me (unless perhaps you wear them with dresses?). The buttons are pulling a little on the striped cardi although I think it would be fine if you leave them unbuttoned - it's a cute sweater and the colors look great with denim. I like the other sweaters. Great job on the closet clean out!

Tanya, I'm with Shana, I find the cropped sweaters a bit dated, too. I think the second one is pretty and since you like it I'd keep it, but I don't have good ideas for how to wear it in different ways. I'm not fond of the first one; if the middle part is indeed sequins it's just a little juvenile or something.

Amongst the others, I'm neutral on most, but I'm very fond of the missoni-esque sweater. I'd definitely keep it and also try a black cami under it.

Tanya -- I like the light blue cropped tie sweater although I don't have any ideas off the top of my head for outfits. I also like the colors of the striped cardigan -- maybe try it unbuttoned with a colored belt? I think the Missoni-esque top is unique and would try it with a black cami as well. I feel neutral on the other sweaters.

Tanya, I really like the light blue tie cardi. Second is the light blue sweater. I could see the cropped cardies worn with a sheath dress or other dress with a fitted top. The striped cardi is hard to see well, but the shoulder fit looks off as well as the pulling, and the Missoni-esque sweater doesn't seem the best color for you. To me it seems dated too.

tanya, we could never get tired of your posts! you're such a sweetie to comment on pretty much everyone else's posts, there's no reason we shouldn't return the favor!

here are my thoughts:

1. teal cropped - i like it. could work with a dress or a white blouse and jeans/skirt/whatever.

2. navy cropped - not my favorite. if we're being ruthless (as you asked in an earlier post), i'd only give it a 6 or 7.

3. light blue cardi - seems dated. id get rid of it.

4. striped cardi - too small and not in love with the print. id say toss.

5. missoni-esque sweater - i personally dont like "keyhole" tops, so id say toss.

6. blue sweater - sleeves look a touch short. i don't love the ruffly-ness on the sleeves, but it's not so bad. maybe a 7 or 8 on crs scale.

Thank you all very much for your opinions! The more i am looking at the photos of these sweaters, the more I am leaning towards getting rid of all of them.

My dear Tanya, you took the words out of my mouth. All of these pieces look absolutely fine but none of them score 9 or 10. I say pass the whole lot on, or pop them in a holding zone to see if you miss them.

You've done an enormous amount of work Tanya, I'm really impressed. I know it takes ages to sort through all your clothing, trying everything on, and then taking pictures. But in the end you get a wardrobe with only those items that really work for you, so that's a reward in itself.

I'm with Angie here, there's nothing wrong with these sweaters, but I think you can do better (actually, we all know you have bought some gorgeous things, so there you go;-)

I'm coming in late but I was also going to suggest getting rid of all of them. It feels good to clean out the closet ruthlessly, doesn't it?
