...in your local consignment. One button blazer, long (not cropped). Sleeveless Mandarin collar top. And (shhh....Angie, look away!!) ankle pants.

100% silk. Your size. Tags still on, unworn.

Retail price, according to those tags?

Price for you? (Or should I just own up here and admit it was ME?)

Friends, I bought it. Ankle pants and all.

But now that I have it home, I haven't got a clue what to DO with it. I mean, honestly. A pink silk dinner suit with ankle pants is for my fantasy life, you know, the one where I swan around at operatic events with Parsley!! It is just a LEEETLE bit impractical for a short-legged work at home mom.

Gulp.

So...help me out here. How can I break it up and wear it? So far, looking in my closet, I am thinking:

White, navy, navy & white or black & white stripes, denim, multicoloured floral with orange/red/hot pink (maybe...have to test this), chocolate brown, nude shoes, purple shoes, yellow bag, gold, silver, pewter. I could throw the jacket on over black, too, but I think that might be a bit strong for me and possibly dated?

And yes, I promise pics. ASAP.

We need to see how each piece fits before giving all sorts of tips for how to work this suit. I think it sounds phenomenal Suz and I actually think it's ok to have one outfit for your fantasy life - this way when some wondrous event presents itself, you're covered! The price you got this at it amazing BTW!

In terms of colours, fuchsia looks fab with navy, white, grey, denim, rich brown, gold....lots of options.

It seems like we get a little crazy when Angie's away! Of course I would have bought it too! You could totally wear it as a suit. If you want to make it look more current, you could have the pants made into long shorts. Did you happen to catch Angie's blog post on colored suits for spring? With your blue linen shirt or lilac BB shirt and your rose pink kitten heel pumps it would be fab for a wedding or graduation or something! I can't wait to see it on you....agh......the suspense is killing me!

Even if you don't wear it as a suit, that sleeveless mandrain collar top will be fab with white pants. So would that long blazer, or with any of the colors you mention. Being silk, it should be soft enough to belt if you wanted to. Could the sleeveless top be tucked to wear with something like your leaf skirt? Could it be worn open like a vest over something flowy?

Sounds like the jacket could go over any skinny pants, even jeans, with carefully chosen shoes to make the look. (Maybe flat tall boots?) I like your idea of trying chocolate with the fuschia color, or even better, espresso. I agree with your impulse on the black--these days black feels a bit severe and dated for me with brights or jewel tones.

I like your idea of buying the outfit without a clue where you'll wear it. Clearly it's something unlike anything else you own, so when the right occasion comes along, it will be the obvious choice! It's good to have a few things in your wardrobe that you can pull out for those unexpected occasions. You might have to get a top or a piece of jewelry, but that's a lot easier than trying to find a whole ensemble when some cool event comes your way.

It sounds amazing and I cant wait to see it. Hot pink goes with so much. Black, grey/charcoal, navy, white...i love it with bright orange! Its also good with lime and turquoise. I'm all about the brights haha.
