I love a pixie cut. I think it screams Confident Woman.

In my opinion, the short pixie style works very well for women with smaller faces and more delicate features. I think this style would look lovely on you Shannon and your signature red lip would look even better with the shorter do. I do really like the longer style on you but its fun to switch it up every once in a while.

I have a cut tomorrow and haven't given it a thought yet. Perhaps I should be doing that instead of looking at recipes.

I am on team go for it. I always feel like hacking my hair off when it gets hot. I love a pixie, and had one a brief time when I first went grey. I now compromise with a pixie on one side, but eventually I will tire of that and off it will go.

Just back to say that I think 'intention' is the key. A well cut short pixie is just beautiful. Not wanting to sound judgmental, some women just go for short cut with little regard for cut or style and it looks that way. You have a wonderful stylist so that is not going to happen.

I'm on Team Play it Your Way. You have been wanting to go shorter for a while, which is a pretty good indication of where your heart is at. And we know it suits you!

In my 20s I cut my hair really short like this. An older, more sophisticated (and European) friend said to me, "I am so glad you really cut your hair and went for a super short cut. There is nothing less stylish than one of those short cuts that is neither here nor there."

That remark has always stayed with me to the point where I worry if my short hair seems to be getting too "long." Ha!

I just got a cut and my stylist made it really short back and sides but left length on the bangs. Like you, I need them thinned a lot and also need to flat iron them in humidity. Or sleep on them. If they bug me too much I am going to get a more textured shorter cut.

I don't think the short pixie will look dated at all. I think it's still very chic looking. (e.g., I don't think Jamie Lee Curtis ever looks out of style, no matter how many years she wears her hair short-short.)

I'm one of the people who would fall into the category that Thirkellgirl describes. The last time I tried to wear my hair very short I was surprised by how little I liked it, since I had worn it in a similar style for many years when I was younger. My face had changed in ways that just didn't go with that style anymore. And I'm still tempted to try it again! (So far I've resisted, though.)

I really like the Anne Hathaway cut. You definitely look great in short short. I think if you do something like these cuts, close to the head, you'll be in high style. i say just stay away from too much heoght on top.

As long as your hair won't stick straight up (mine does when cut that short), you'll be fine.

Wow - you have all given me much to think about.

Bettycrocker - definitely do not want sticking up hair!

I'm getting my hair cut on Friday and I'm going shorter - to a pixie! Join me!

I think you should try it, Shannon! I hear you on the summer hair thing -- this is my first summer in a long time without shorter layers and I'm tempted to cut mine every day. Short hair will suit you, IMHO and it will grow back if you don't like it or get bored when summer's over.

I'm also one of those women Thirkellgirl is referring to -- I don't look good with short hair. But I think LisaP and others here look AMAZING.

To me, the key with short hair (as well as grey) in midlife is to make friends with lipstick and have the patience to apply it often.
