Sunscreen clothing sources?

I'd like a bathing suit coverup that is pretty serious, made of SPF fabric. The brands I'm aware of in this area are Coolibar, and Cabanalife. My husband has some Coolibar items, but I haven't ever bought from there for me. Any other brands I should look at?

If you can’t find a purpose-made coverup, you might want to try a LS button-front shirt, in larger than your usual size, as a simple cardi/jacket. Lots of outdoor outfitters and golf shops carry them in sun-protective fabrics.

This is an area that’s only likely to grow, given our new reality. I hope Angie adds it to her regular cycle of round-ups.

Most of the outdoor adventure brands, like Patagonia and Northface seem to be producing a lot of UPF rated items lately. Columbia has for quite some time since sun protection is a prime function for their fishing lines of clothing.
REI or your local adventure outfitter likely should have a good cross section of items.

Welp, I just received this from Patagonia, so maybe sticking with a specialized UPF brand like Coolibar is a good idea!

Athleta has a UPF line. You might also try LL Bean and Lands End.

Not seeing a cover-up among this but FWIW Uniqlo has been doing UV-protective items for several years now:

I don't have recommendations other than Coolibar. I use their full arm sleeves and fingerless gloves. They've been adding some really nice colors and patterns recently, to their swim and clothing lines.

But did want to share that my dermatologist told me that one thing to be mindful of is how many washes the item will take before the SPF factor wears off. Coolibar states that their protection never washes out. Don't know if that is regulated by anyone though.

Solumbra also call sun precautions. Agree w sloper. I am a dermatologist and I only recommend SPF clothing where the protection is due to the weave of the cloth. Solumbra has that and my jacket is 15 yo and still looks new. I would not spend a lot of swim rash guards. The fibers get destroyed my chlorine. You’ll get a couple of seasons out of them defending on wear and if you forget and throw them in the dryer. Coolibar has an adorable Mylar sun umbrella. Excellent for emergencies.

Lands End, LL Bean and Baleaf all offer SPF clothing. I have a Baleaf dress coverup that is my go to favorite. I found it on Amazon.

kkards you are a *queen.* I had never heard of laundry additives. Just ordered some.
The “burn time” here is about 8 minutes, & it’s a 7 minute walk minimum from the parking lot to my office, twice a day. I haven’t been able to bring myself to use an umbrella for sun protection. Yet.

Ophelia, that short a burn time sounds shocking. Where are you, and where does one look up burn times? Is there a scale that converts the UV ratings, 1-11, into times? https://www.dwd.de/DE/leistung.....exuvi.html

FashIntern, the meteorologists give both the UV rating & the burn time on the nightly local news. It may be on their website too; I’ve never checked. I don’t recall him giving a conversion formula.
I’m on the east coast. I’d assume the west coast would be similar though.

Wow - I’ve learned so much in this thread. I just assumed UPF clothing was protective due to the weave - had no idea some had chemicals involved.
I can vouch for Gryffin’s adventurer hat, though it is the dorkiest-looking item I’ve ever worn. Especially when paired with sun-protective gloves!
