Sunglasses ? ETA - Pics added downthread Yay or Nay?

Hi All

Any ideas what shapes of sunglasses are trending for summer 2023? I spotted a fairly large octagonal shape in a fab bottle green that I am considering. Kind of Jackie O.

I pay a lot of attention to glasses, and it looks like what you described is very on trend. Oversized and glam plastic glasses, or wire frame aviators seem to be top of the pops.
I have a couple of pairs of sunglasses, dark green, and dark brown, thick rectangular frames. The oversized round prescription ones are a wire frame in a bright green.
I have a small and narrow face and these actually look good, and provide enough eye coverage to block out sun efficiently. Those tiny hipster ones did not.

I often look at the latest Chanel sunglass collection to get an indication of what is trending. The shape you are suggesting sounds classic - which will never go out of style. Aviators seem very trendy at the moment.

OGI like the sound of your green wire specs. Unfortunately my prescription is too strong for wire frames. I wear my contact lenses when I wear sunnies.

Bijou Yes, I was wondering if these big sunnies have become classic. I do have gold aviatar style frames but now my hair is silver I am not so keen on gold. I must actually try them on!

RejoiceandBe you are funny! I have two pairs of sporty type sunglasses that are like new although they are from the 90's (not worn much at all and kept in cases). One is bright pink and I saw a similar pair in Zara in white, so they are definitely trendy again.

You know after chatting this through with you guys and re-evaluating what I have I may not actually need a new pair. Thanks so much! I will try post some pics later if I get the chance and you can tell me what you think.

I'm seeing lots of oversized glasses too, definitely the octagonal ones. Well that's what's in the shops at any rate.
I did try on these, which are a bit more scaled to my small face, but won't buy til my eye exam. Most of the time I wear my sunnies anyway.

Having a small face I have to get children’s specs or a small size if I can find it. Mine are finds mostly from The Rack, where I can try them on. I have worn sun glasses inside and outside the past three years with my mask Cataract surgery has left me with better sight but eyes sensitive to light. The light is very intense here in Colorado at high altitude. I wear sun hats all the time.

@ Bijou - what an excellent idea! I’ve been struggling at how to find images of modern eyeglass trends, and don’t quite trust Pinterest or even specs frames stores in me area. Scrolling designer websites for their products and/or colabs should do the trick!

Warby Parker is my go to for anything prescription. I have a big round face turning oval with jowls

Wp has an app that allows you to “try” on the glasses. Not perfect but good enough to narrow selections to try at home —up to 5 pairs at a time.

Also, any pair can be made with sunglass lenses or vice versa

I don't really follow this but now I am going to pay attention - I did think oval 90s shapes were popular but maybe that is going out. Agree that they are insufficient for sun protection and I won't wear them.

So here are two pairs in my stash that are from the early 00s but barely worn. When I recently saw a white pair in Zara just like the pink pair I decided to pull them out for the summer. These are both in great condition. The darker pair, which has orangey brown arms, is also rimless at the bottom, which you cannot see in the pics, originally belonged to my DH but he never wore them. The pink pair also has an interesting inner orange and is really very bright fuchsia pink but for some reason not showing up in the pics. These are not the best shapes for my wider face. Yay or Nay? Keep in mind I live at the seaside of a popular international tourist resort so they are just for casual fun wear. Be honest are they wearable? They do sort of remind me of some of the sporty wrap arounds you seeing lately. Crazy air dried summer hair, 35 degrees c today and 75% humidity!

The pinks are a ‘Yay’ from me! The second pair are okay/fine - but not as cool as the pink rimmed ones - which I think you should get into rotation.

So the pink pair it is for 2023 - thanks to everyone who chimed in.

Angie, thank you, I am leaning in to the natural wave of my hair this summer. It is behaving better in the humidity than my dyed hair did - which frizzed more than waved. I just style the face framing layers with an iron for a few secs and am good to go. These pics are not styled at all, which is probably obvious :). I have experienced so many benefits from going natural. One of the best decisions I have ever made, along with giving up smoking 25 plus years ago - both of these were extremely difficult to do but so worth it in the long run!
