For the last four or so years I have been looking for just the right sundres(es) and failing miserably. I will admit to being quite picky: I wanted a fun print, cotton, either lined in cotton or thick enough not to need lining, not skimpy, knee-length-ish, and with the top that can either be worn with a strapless bra or is lined and has a cut mimicking a bra so one is not necessary. For two summers prior to my long SYC I have devoted a lot of time to this and managed to find a single one that has been worn a lot subsequently, too much actually.
Recently, since stopping SYC, I have been scanning the dress racks of discount stores such as Nordstrom Rack for pretty cocktail dresses. Haven't had any luck so far, but managed to find TWO perfect sundresses that I snapped immediately!
The first one is by French Connection, navy/emerald with some subtle sequins on the skirt, thin cotton lined with cotton and the top is constructed like a corset so it does not need a bra. The second one is by Calvin Klein, fun polka dot print, thick cotton that is not see-through and works well with a strapless bra. Both have fun criss-cross straps in the back. I am in sundress heaven! As Angie often mentions, it pays off holding out for the right thing, even if the wait is very long.
