Summer Toppers keep/ hold/ pass on

Here are my summer or warm weather toppers. I have added a photo which includes a close up.

I don’t really have a long blazer which I will be looking for.

1) kimono - love the pattern with black cream and navy and a hint of gold. Made by a friend. But I haven’t worn this year. Thinking: holding zone or donate?

2). Verge grey jacket. One year old. Worn about four times. Thought it would go with lots but it is too big and does not excite me. Thinking: sell- cost over $200 so not a good purchase.

3). Gold bomber. Thrifted 2019. Fast fashion NZ brand Glassons. Love this - keep

4). Pink designer jacket - Anne Mardell. Adore the colour and quality. But feels dated. Thinking - holding zone?

5) green cropped jacket. I dyed this from white. Useful summer topper and whilst not trendy I think it works? Keep and wear.

6). Kimono. The blue was a dupe of this which was made by a friend. Love the fabric. Haven’t worn much lately. I like it with skinny jeans best. Thinking keep and try to find new ways to wear.

I have added all my spring and summer jackets in the finds below. The pink light puffer and red leather are only cool spring but still available.

Let me know your thoughts on keepers and those to be edited out.

Me too Sal - I agree with your entire assessment. I really like the first one!!

I agree except for the first one. I’d keep and wear that. Can the (second) grey jacket be dyed? Grey undertones can be hard to budge. The pink designer jacket is a bit retro and would look more at home with an A-line midi skirt, IMO. I’d keep it in mind for that pairing.

My difficulty in commenting is because I think I am overly influenced by my own style rather than yours. I like the 2 kimono jackets best, first the floral and then the blue, because cobalt is my favourite colour. Then I like the flowy Kilt one, and then the Witchery duck-egg blazer. I agree to sell the Verge one, a great brand but we all make errors. And Anne Mardell does look slightly retro, if it were me I would keep for retro events ( but I have a whole dress-up section in the storage room).
The gold and the green both look great on you!

I agree with your reasoning except I really like the blue kimono on you (maybe even more than the floral, though I think you should keep both). With the kimonos, maybe it’s just a matter of coming up with an updated outfit formula to feature them and then you might wear them both more?

I think the cream and duck egg jackets will do for any occasion you might have worn the gray, or the green would work in more casual outfits. So I think the gray can go.

I LOVE the dye job on the green jacket!

The pink lacks a certain edgy/bold quality that I associate with your style. It would be just fine on someone with a more retro style. Only keep if you feel that you have a retro element in your “shadow style” (gosh that shadow style concept is SO useful!)

Plan - sell online or consign grey jacket. The shape is wrong on me as is the colour. I might get $50 for it as it is in good condition. Lesson - just because it could go with lots of things does not mean that I love it and that it fits well.

I will try the pink jacket with my blue A line skirt. It might work. It looks really good over a fitted dress.

Kimono x 2 - experiment a bit as the weather warms. I like them with jeans and a tank - but somehow proportions have changed with tops and lengths and I have lost my confidence with then. Pleased nobody said Golden Girls as that was one reference I wondered about.

Green and gold- keep and wear.

Would like a mid weight long blazer and new work pants. Ideally one in a subtle print and one plain.

My favorites are 5 and 6 plus gold bomber. I love the print in 1 but you need to want to wear it.

I will experiment with the kimono style jackets. When I purchased the first one I had some fitted white pants and wore a long blue silky tee. I don't have the pants any longer but it might work with my looser white jeans. Or with the new jumpsuit.

They are nice for summer BBQ which feel a way off as we are having a cold and stormy spring:)

Verge grey jacket can go. It is not as nice as your Witchery blazer, but would be worn in a similar way.

I am not loving the pink jacket on you, despite loving pink! I would also pass on this one.

LOVE the gold bomber, a really fun addition to your wardrobe.

The pink is at the drycleaner and I will reevaluate. I wore it maybe once last summer so my tastes may have changed.

Finding jackets that work in transitional weather can be a challenge for me! I find it easier in winter when the jacket is an integral part of the outfit.

My favourites are the floral kimono and the gold bomber jacket.
I also like the first kimono but think it would look better with lighter (or brighter) colours underneath it.
I like the pink jacket but doesn’t look quite right for your style.
The green jacket and grey jackets seem too rough or something.

I sold a pricey mistake jacket earlier this summer, so I know how hard that is, but I think you're making the right decision. It will feel better having it out of your closet.

I'm intrigued by how your duped kimono doesn't seem to work as well as the original. I wonder why that is.

Other than that, I think your instincts are good, and enjoyed hearing your thought processes.

Jenn - to be fair I haven't worn either kimono much for the last year. The blue/white is two years old, the black floral more like five years old. Probably an example of why duping is not so good for me!! I am tempted to keep as I do like them and even if worn infrequently they give me pleasure.

Smittie - the green is a bit worn and because it is dyed it is a bit uneven. I do like it for holidays though. The blue kimono has usually been worn with white skinnies and a blue tee, with cognac shoes and bag. I could still do this and might see how I feel about it.

I did actually order a jacket yesterday - one I admired last year and it is now on a good sale. NZ designer but made overseas. It is black and will form part of my work capsule (if I like it).
