I admit I have been floundering lately with developing a plan. So far, my strategies aren't working, but I think I've come up with something. It includes doing homework, and writing things down...Oy. Thanks to E for pointing out the silhouette concept and the introduction to the vivienne files. Also someone else (I forgot, I'm sorry!) mentioned having a closet full of clothes but no wardrobe. Those two points especially struck me and I think I am ready to take it to the next level. In the meantime, what I've sort of figured out- and simply that is I just don't "do" summer:
At the beginning of the summer I purged most of my wardrobe without intent to immediately replace. I realized summer is not my favorite season and although it does last here longer than a lot of places, I didn't need anything much that is summer specific as work requires business casual and usually a sleeve for AC temps and motg days were easily covered. I wanted to live with the remainder to determine what I actually loved and how much I actually needed. (For example, I hate shorts and really only wear them on the hottest days or vaca- so 2-3 pairs is fine.)
I do have a purgatory for clothes I'm unsure of and I have rescued a few orphans. But by and large, I killed a lot of them. Also, I gave myself permission to let a few tshirts go simply because I was sick of them, not because they had outworn their use. (They've been around for a couple years, I should say.)
Following the "no-buy" threads, I realized I also don't shop much in the summer. If I do it seems it is for gear- swimsuit, occasion dress or hiking shoes- stuff like that. Also there are so many things to do and see, all my money ends up going towards those things instead. I do think I will be abusing my credit a bit with stocking up on some basics through NAS...
Wow, so um, this originally was going to be a WIW post and I kind of went off on a tangent...sorry. Maybe I just needed to get it out there- thanks for humoring me. WIW to follow....:)
