Summer jumpsuits/playsuits etc

Here in Australia, it seems summer jumpsuits and playsuits are EVERYWHERE.

These are just illustrations, not ones I particularly like - every shop has them. I don't remember them being so big on YLF over the US summer.

Anyway, I unexpectedly have a free day tomorrow and thought I'd see if I could start my summer shopping. I already have my boden dress, just want 2 tees (one for skirts and one for shorts) and a playsuit or jumpsuit.

Any thoughts? I'd ideally like one with short sleeves and maybe a collar, but I think that may be asking too much.

Many of the short ones have very plunging v necks which isn't for me.

I'm also concerned about my long torso and short legs and consequent fitting challenges

I've seen dressier longer ones here on the forum, but maybe I've missed these sorts. If you have worn them or even just tried them on, I'll be keen to hear of your experiences.

Need to go to bed to get strength (am not a natural shopper) but will check back in the morning.

I bought a maroon jumpsuit in the early fall but haven't had a chance to wear it yet. I agree that I haven't seen too many on the forum. I really like the one you show here. I think it looks great with the silver sneakers but will also look good with sandals.

I saw a lot of casual playsuits/rompers on the college-age crowd this summer and I do see the occasional dressy jumpsuit. I think the inconvenience of on/off especially when using public restrooms is the biggest drawback. For me at least, dresses and skirts are much easier to fit and more comfortable, so I don't have anything like this in my closet even though I like the look.

You might be done shopping before you even start--the one you have on in these pix is cute on you! No collar, obviously, but I bet you could put a fitted/body-con T-shirt under it if you want more coverage sometimes.

FWIW, I had several of these the last time around. Only time I recall worrying about a bathroom was in a long sleeved, full-length, white jersey jumpsuit I wore to a disco--lots of fabric, and lots to avoid on the floor. The shorties/playsuits were no problem that way at all.

What Angie said. I had a jumpsuit once that looked good but would never buy another one piece garment like this. Too fussy going to the loo. Also be sure you can check the back view. Mine looked great from the side and front but wide and baggy from the back. Also. the waist fell in a weird spot.

Sounds like we have similar body type: long torso, short legs. This makes fitting a jumpsuit challenging. I have best luck with cropped ones (which are basically normal length on me). But be very careful with the rise!! If the body is too short it can really cut into the crotch area, which is uncomfortable and looks weird too. Especially the back view- wedgie galore.

Jumpsuits are very in demand nowadays, even though it's difficult to wear! However, it's still one of my favorite clothing styles. I think everything suits you well. You just have to choose one that is you are most comfortable wearing on.

Well firstly, I did not end up have my spare day; My plans reverted to plan A, and shopping will be put off for a week or so. But that means more time for YLF to comment!!

So many of you mentioned the loo aspect, and I'll have to think about that, since I drink copious amounts of water and am a mother of three...
A FI said, that is probably more likely to be a problem with the longer legged ones.

FI - I hadn't thought of wearing a tee underneath but of course it was very in the 90's and is again in now (part of me is resisting doing that bit of the 90's but I don't know why really - after all I haven't worn a playsuit since the 90's either - and that was one I made myself and converted to a dress because the crotch wasn't too comfortable (to La Ped's and Jessikams's point - but I'm still quite keen on the idea now)

I'm ok with the neckline on the one I tried one, but some of them,especially the short ones, are really plunging, like way below the bra band.

Joy - waist falling in the wrong place is exactly what usually happens with me, and I was surprised that this one did fall about the right spot. I have quite a proportionally large bottom though, so things are not usually baggy there if they fit other places - I appreciate your general point to check the back view.

Jessikams - yes, similar vertical proportions for sure!!

Thanks Minah Lynn, we must have been writing at the same time. I've only tried this one style on, so I'll do a bit more comparison shopping

Seriously, that warning gets repeated every time somene posts about a 1-piece thing on here, but I’ve yet to see any WIWs where the person says it was a problem.

Seriously, I read a book on early WW2 paratroopers and yes, some drastic redesigns had to occur due to the toilet issue !

I wonder what happened to those designs when they planned space suits—astronauts have to wear diapers. I think that would mess up Anne’s look
