Summer booties arrived

So the two pairs of Vince Camuto open-toe booties I ordered have arrived. They're really comfy for 4" and the prices were right. The tan ones were ~$54 on sale.

I do tend to slide forward in them, although some foot petals are helping with that, and I'm not 100% keen on the wide width at the ankle. I'm thinking all these boots are cut like this on purpose, because no one but an elephant could have piano legs like that. But are they too wide to wear with a skirt? Would that look too funny? I'd like boots to wear with skirts. For the price, however, I'd be willing to keep these as "hold-me-over" shoes, until better comes along.

What do y'all think?

It sounds as though they might be too big, somehow. If they are not comfortable and need a lot of fiddling to make them work, will you persevere in wearing them? (I have a history of not wearing shoes that have the slightest issue with them.) Perhaps if you really love them you will persevere?

As to whether they would look ok with a skirt, I think they could do. It depends on the skirt. High-vamp shoes and booties are being worn with all sorts of things currently so I don't really see that as an issue. I just can't get past the sliding forward in them issue. For me, that would be too irritating.

I like the look of them. Both colours look good. Are you ok with a 4" heel? If you think with the shoe petals they can become comfy, I don't think they are disastrously wide at the ankle. You need to think about which colour you may reach for the most and what you will wear them with.
I like the ones Anna linked to as well.

The ankles look fine to me, and the boots are delicate enough that they would look nice with a skirt. That is if you don't object to delicate But - you know I'm no maven. The black looks super with the pants you're wearing. The sliding forward sounds problematic though.

It does look as if they are designed to be wide at the ankle. Do you want to show us with a dress so we can see the overall effect? Sometimes it is tough to tell from just the closeups. The heel would not be possible for me, but they are pretty darned cool.

It's hard to choose between black and brown. I think they are meant to be that wide, like the others have said. I hate to say it, but if you're not in love with them right now, you may want to consider sending them back and saving the money for when you find the right pair.

I prefer the tan and find the gap unobjectionable as it looks intentional. The slippage sounds maddening, though.

I'm on the fence, as I hate the flower pot look and wish more booties tapered in to the ankle somehow. I think you want them to feel secure in the footbed though so if they're wide at the shaft it's intentional and not because they're just too wide overall.

My goodness those are beautiful on your foot. I think the way the shaft stands away from your ankle makes your legs look pretty and delicate. Let's see them with a dress! How does the tan color look against your bare leg?

unfrumped - Yes, the flower pot look always bugs me a bit too. I don't know why designers are so enamoured of this look. I also wish more booties were cut to fit snug at the ankle, but they are hard to come by.

Suz, Sarah - I will try to rustle up a skirt or dress outfit. (This will probably take me days, so no one hold their breath )

Diane, Pil, cobalt - I'm actually ok with the 4" heel. I wasn't sure if I would be. The foot petals seem to be working. The insole is very slippy, that's the problem. If I didn't wear nylon socks, I wouldn't have the problem, but that is icky to me.

Kristen - I'll have to think more about whether to keep. I think I'd might be more likely to keep the tan. They were cheaper and I feel I have to watch how much black I buy. Don't want to get too citified... hehe.

Ok. I will rustle up a dress sometime in the next few days... schedule crunch!

Okay, I really like these in the black! It might just be because of the pants you show with them, or it could be because black would bookend your hair so beautifully, or it might be because black really is awesome

How much more were the black than tan?

P.S. I bow to your ability to wear 4" heels . . .and live to tell about it!

love both. the flower pot is why i have so few booties. for me, tan is edging the black, only because i am trying to train myself away from too much black.

...i am fascinated by your maxell video tapes. we have them too because my husband can't part with them without first watching the 2004 olympics.

Are heels a new style direction for you? I don't recall ever seeing you wear 4" heels. They look great!

Since you want them for summer, I vote tan.

Hmm. The tan has come from behind. Hmm hmm hmm.

The black were ~$134. Quite a big difference. But way under the Prada mark, like that helps. Haha.

Wow, those are HIGH. But hot. I like the black so long as you can actually walk in them.

And that amount of ankle gap is reasonable. You want to see flowerpot? I should find the pic of me trying on the report marks for you...

oh and I agree with the need for more boots with fitted ankles! That is why I'm still obsessed with the rag and bone deacons.

I like the black... But for the price if you arent sure on the wearability the tan could be an inexpensive test. I dont see too much gap at the ankle at all...i think they are meant to fit this way.

Black pulls ahead again!

The boots are really really close. The black has some extra ornamentation in the form of cross straps. Both are Vince Camuto tho. I think they're pretty much the same except for that. I think my duck-feet pose on the tan probably isn't showing them true.

Denise - Team heels! And maybe I should start looking at Rag & Bone if they do a fitted ankle at least every now and then...
