Suggestions for jackets/blazers?

It's getting cold and I'm donating 3 of my jackets!

My remaining 5 are:
- brown/green/yellow/orange tweed
- "dune" double placket jacket
- brown cord stretch blazer
- gray knit blazer/jacket (ignore the pj bottoms...)
- greenish jacket (ditto above, sorry!)

I think I need a few more to make it through the winter. Any specific or general suggestions? All future purchases need to be nice enough to teach in, so nothing too casual please. Thank you!

It is so cold here! I'm amazed at how I've acclimated to the weather. I am literally freezing in 60 degree temps now -- it's nutty!

See how cute these jackets look on you! So glad you're tossing the others. I have no suggestions as I need to start shopping for a couple more jackets as well, but I just wanted to say brrr! It's finally chilly! Yay.

ok, and another question: is the gray jacket ok with the sleeves down? Is the button sticking out on each sleeve weird?

Kate, you have done a great job of selecting jackets that flatter your tiny waist! What about a denim jacket?

I have the same question about the buttons on a wrap dress and a camp shirt that I have. Not sure what to tell you.

I love your jackets. I vote for trying to wear each of these jackets a few times and deciding after that what is missing in your wardrobe.

the sleeves down on the grey jacket and the buttons don't bother me. have you tried replacing the tie belt with a leather one?
I'd also suggest at least one denim jacket. My dark denim and white denim get lots of use, enough that a light wash and a black denim are on my wish list. If you wear leather, you might look for one. Cognac would be pretty with your coloring. A boyfriend blazer is also a great jacket to dress up a simple outfit. A moto jacket would also be a great addition.

Joy, switching out the belt on the blazer is a brilliant idea! (I'm also tempted to just remove the belt loops, I think it wouldn't be too hard...) Unfortunately my black belts are too wide for it, and only my cognac waist belts would work, which I think are too high of a contrast. I'll have to play around with it and see what I can do.

How about a basic black blazer that could be dressed up or down?

The buttons on the gray one don't bother me, but if you don't think you'll be rolling up the sleeves until Spring, then just take the buttons off.

I love those jackets! I think Bella has a great idea -- wear them all for a while and see if you have a jacket hole in your wardrobe!

kate, love your jackets, especially the first and last. love the tweedy green. i feel the bodice is very current in shape too. have you considered pushing up the sleeves or shortening them to bracelet length.

re the gray one, how about sewing down the loops so they lie flat? then you can wear your wider belts over them without buckling. i like the buttons when the sleeves are down. i love them when the sleeves are cuffed up. you could consider replacing the buttons on the sleeves with a lower contrast one...so it's tone on tone, if the contrast bothers you.

Great job. You have really bought some nice jackets and they are all different and look pretty on you. Have you though of a nice black jacket or denim?

This is a great collection of blazers. Five is a weeks worth of blazers. Do you plan to wear cardigans too, to switch it up? If not, then maybe add one or two more, a black perhaps BF style and/or a knit to switch it up. If you plan to wear cardigans I would hold on purchasing more until you see how many additional blazers you need.

To echo what others have said, I'd vote for a black boyfriend blazer to add to the mix. I just recently acquired one and am loving it over all sorts of dresses with the sleeves rolled/pushed up. It gives my dresses a totally different look which makes my wardrobe feel more versatile. And, I've worn it out with jeans on the weekends.

Okay, I'm going to be a bit of a wrench in the works (or spanner, as Angie says.)

I love #1 & #2. #3 is okay, although it seems a tiny bit big in the body. I don't care for #3 & #4. I think you have broad shoulders (I do too!) and these jackets accentuate them a tad too much to my eye. I feel these jackets are wearing you, while the first three really let YOU shine though Does that make any sense? (Of course, this is just one person's opinion!)

Tarzy, that's funny, because 1, 2, and 5, all have kinda "poofy" shoulders, which I have worried make my shoulders look broader. #3 would be a bit better without the military detail on top of the shoulders (they don't help my short neck look any longer), but Angie gave it the go-ahead when I did my NAS haul. OH, and now that I look at it, I see it has shoulder pads! Those are coming out, and I'll snap a new picture of it today.

I've never had the feeling that #4 is wearing me - it's knit and very fitted. Anyway, I've become more ok with my shoulders looking broad (because they are) so long as my upper arms don't look broad too (and make me look like a football player). But the shoulder pads are definitely coming out...

Okay, I'm coming out and admitting that I'm with Tarzy. I have broad shoulders also, which I don't mind... however, I agree with her that the jackets she pointed out are not knock-outs. # 3 makes it look like you are slouching (which I know you're not from the first photo!). Maybe without the shoulder pads? Look forward to the new photo!

It's funny how we see different things! Personally, the gray one is my favorite of the lot (the 4th one). I wouldn't wear a crewneck shirt with it (that can add to the shoulder-widening, IMHO), but I think it's gorgeous on you. I like all of these, and double or triple the vote on the black BF jacket.

Jonesy, don't worry, I hardly ever wear crew necks, and good point that the shirt may be a contributing factor to how wide my shoulders look. I'll definitely be on the hunt for a black jacket!

Kate, FWIW, I love #1 and #2.KILLER.

#3 is quite nice.

#4 and #5 are a little more dull compared to the others, but they do actually fit!

LOVE #1 and 2. #3 is good and useful, although the epaulets strike me as a bit fussy. #5 also seems like a good piece to have around--it would be adorable over a floral dress. #4 seems a bit dated; maybe matching or low-contrast buttons would help?
