Suggestions for finding a warm plush bathrobe...

Grayscale started a thread asking what we are craving in this cold weather, well she clearly read my mind. I am on a major hunt to replace my old worn out plus oversized bathrobe. I am looking for something heavy, machine washable, very long with a nice thick belt which does not slip and material substantial enough that you don't need to tie the inner tie to keep it closed. Ideally something that does not shed. Does anyone have any suggestions?

At a nice hotel! I'm not advocating theft - my DH got me a big, soft, plush, non-shedding robe from the hotel we got married at as an anniversary gift. Some places sell the same brand of towels/robes/etc they have for guests. It might be worth investigating.

I have this one from Marks & Spencer, who has free shipping to the US until the 17th (though on the web site it says free shipping over [#]30). (Sorry, I don't know how to do the pound symbol!)

I bought the long version the last time they had free shipping to the US a year ago. I love it -- and was not able to find a comparable 100% cotton robe here in the States.

Emily - that is actually a great idea about hotel robes. I have seen them on sale. Unfortunately no nice travel plans in the works but I may try googling some nice hotels and see if they have an online gift shop. Sounds like a great score.
Pasatrygirl - thanks for the link. It looks like a great robe. I think everyone else agrees since they are almost sold out. Although I am a size 4 I usually take a large robes since I like them huge, but I will keep that on the radar. Many thanks and I am glad you are enjoying yours!!

Oops, I didn't even notice that they only had one size left. I have it in the dark purple and it's a great color. I also really wanted a cotton robe rather than polyester for after a shower…polyester gives me the willies on wet skin!

I often buy men's housecoats. They seem to stay together and be of heavier weight than women's ones.

Dianthus - I was really considering that. The only issue I have in men's robes is the arm holes are cute really low (okay I speak for my husbands XL but I can't imagine the L would be that much different and for some reason that really annoys me.) Did you notice that in the robes you tried on? I do think Men's robes tend to run thicker and they get really nice colors. My beloved has a black watch tartan heavy cotton terry robe and looks totally awesome in it. Sigh, wish I could find that in my size!!

I don't know if you had considered this, but I just got a Lands End down robe. It's incredibly warm and has a flannel lining. I wish they had had red when I got mine.

Are you in Canada? Winners (TJ Maxx) has amazing plushy ones all the time!

I second man-robes; they are usually a lot thicker and have less of the yucky over-floral patterns, and often have pockets!

I bought a robe from the Conrad New York - I called them and they were super helpful about it. If you don't mind the monogram, you can probably get one pretty quickly - mine took several months because I didn't want it and they had to wait for a new shipment. The robe is fantastic and very, very comfortable.

Lyn - I'm in USA - New Jersey. We must have a TJ Maxx but I don't know where it is. Honestly, if it's not online I don't own it. I started scoping out man robes. Nothing so far is calling me but I'll keep looking. thanks so much for the help!
Susie - I'm going to scope out the Uggs robe now. The one Janet recommended from Nordies is not available in my size/color. I know another reviewer mentioned the Uggs. I thought it might have been shorter than I wanted but I will check it out. Many thanks.

Parsley - Nordies only has the purple robe in a size 3. Now I love an oversized robe but do you think that would swamp me? I am 5'3" and 111 lbs. I have taken a large in robes and I like them long but some reviewers thought this ran huge. Any thoughts on sizing?

I have a long bathrobe made from cozy fleecy material that I got at Bath & Body Works, of all random places. It's about five years old, but still warm and soft and in great condition. I'm not sure if they still carry robes, but this was something that they sold packaged as a holiday gift so, if they have them at all, it would be now.

I think it's one size fits all, so it definitely will run large if you're very small, but not overwhelmingly so. I'm a short 6 to 8 and it's big but not huge on me.

I found mine at Habitat a few years ago, it still looks good as new, washes easily and is super warm and soft. The belt keeps it closed without problems. Oh, and it's a lot longer than it looks in the photo (hits me below the knee, I'm 5"8').

Gryffin, I checked and it turns out my robe is actually a size S/M. So there'd theoretically be an option to size up if you wanted it really oversized.

I second the suggestions of Lands End -- I have one from them that my mom got me about 6-7 years ago and it's still in great shape. Also the hotel suggestion -- we have a couple of Marriott bathrobes (actually freebies because my husband is some ridiculous level of platinum member with them, they are a client of his), and those are really nice too.

Gryffin- I just saw your question to me about the Nordstrom robe. I don't think there's any way you could wear a size 3. I think you'd find the Size 1 plenty big. I'd watch the website, because they will probably have your size back in stock. I see that they do have the blue in a Size 1. It was a really nice shade of blue in person, and I almost chose it instead of purple. I am loving this robe so much I hardly want to get dressed!

On winter evenings and early mornings, if not in very cozy loungewear, and sometimes in addition to it, I like LLBean long fleece robes. Not a silky- plush, but they are very warm, wash well , and are sized so I can wear a full- length, which I
need on cold days.
The colors may change in some years so I try to grab " my" colors when they come up.

Parsley - thanks so much for chiming back. My bedroom is this deep wedgewood blue and I thought the blue looked like it had warm undertones (although it's so hard to judge color online). I know that sounds silly but since my coloring is cool (and I look dreadful in warm undertones) I was trying to figure out color. Since you've seen them, if you get a chance, let me know which color would work best. If it's a true clear navy I would order that one. Otherwise you're right, I will keep stalking!! Many thanks for all your help!
Unfrumped - I will check out LLBean. yes, it's really hard to find what you like in your colors!! Stalking must be the way to go. I am looking for warm, thick and not silky (I hate belt slippage) so this sounds like a great lead - plust onl full length (I too like to be swaddled up!!) thanks for the tip!! Off to shop!

Gosh, Gryffin, it really sounds like the blue would be better for you than the purple.
I'd jump on it, if I were you! It won't cost anything to try it!
