Suggestion Needed for Wedding

Guys, I need your help! I'm almost 55 this year. I'm attending a young kid's(age 29) wedding. I do hope to wear double breasted suit. But it's hard to choose either banker stripe or glen plaid. I have two candidates here:

I'm 58 chest and big guy. i know people might not know what it means, but it is very hard for me to have a fitted suit. I don't have much options here, so if you can give me some advice, the first is a plaid suit, the second is stripe suit. the color does not matter. i'll probably go with navy or black or gray

would you please just reply 1 or 2?

Both suits look very nice and classic. Your choice may depend on the formality of the wedding, as well as the climate and the surroundings. The dark striped suit is more formal and may be a safer choice, unless the wedding is in a very relaxed (maybe outdoor and summery) setting, in which case the lighter checked suit will be fine.

I suppose I might add that pin stripes aren’t traditionally worn to weddings, but this is very old fashioned...

I like the navy pinstripe. I remember hearing what rachy said about pinstripe, being more business than social, but I think that is probably a decades old perception.

You can have fun with a festive color of tie and/or shirt for the occasion. maybe a lavender shirt and a navy/purple tie pattern. My husband wore a blue suit with a similar tie shirt combo to a recent wedding and looked very handsome.

The glen plaid looks more wedding like to me. Depends on location and time of day though.

I think light colored glen plaid has a "subtle and elegant" vibe, but dark glen plaid lacks these qualities. My suggestion for you is:
- If you have cold natural colors, go for #1 in gray.
- If you have warm natural colors, #1 in beige would probably look good on you
- If you aren't sure, have a mix of cold and warm colors or have warm colors but dislike beige, #2 in navy (or a solid navy suit) will probably work better.

I very much prefer suit #1. My DH is a large, barrel-chested man and I think the first suit would also be more flattering.

Both are nice and both should work....but I agree with the above posts that 1 may be better for less formal or day while 2 for evening or more formal. Either way-in the words of that ZZ Top song- you will be a "Sharped Dress Man". Enjoy the wedding.
