i don't know if it's been brought up before, but would it be very difficult to give us the ability to send private messages to individual users as i've seen on other forums? it might make it easier to set up swaps and meetups, give each other info that's OT, or just chat

apologies if it's already been said!

There's a youlookfab page set up on Facebook; if you find it and join it, you will find a few of us on there, and then you can friend whomever you like and communicate that way.

If anyone finds me on Facebook, just as an FYI, I like to keep the "shiny" nickname off my wall.

ooo, i had no idea we had a facebook page thanks shiny. i'm just part of some other forums, and thought it might be convenient to have that messaging feature here, so i could, for instance, pass you some okra recipes

Oops, that was because I am an admin, so I never hit the "become a fan" button. Duh. Okay I'm on there now - I change my profile pic often, currently I'm the one holding a fork.

I'm on facebook way too much, but that's because I am involved in social media marketing, which includes facebook.... so basically I get paid to play on there a lot.

Hanna - I'll look forward to the recipes!!

Hanna - you have to click on the "Become a Fan" link at the top.

Initially I had the thought that facebook could be used to post and comment on photos of outfits, but in retrospect, I don't think it's a great idea because of privacy issues. I don't know about anyone else, but I wouldn't post my outfit pictures on my facebook profile because my friends and family will all think I'm silly! Plus, I'm not sure I completely trust the facebook privacy controls.

But, just having it there is a great way to connect with other members if people want to do so. You can even set up regional YLF groups if you like - and those could also be set to private so they don't show up on your profile or in the search either, if you want.

I just joined the YLF Facebook group as well. I spend too much time on Facebook as well. It was a slight side effect of writing my dissertation on social networking sites.

Very interesting! I've always avoided joining FB and other social networking sites. It is not a very 21st century thing to say but I know that privacy regulations are quite shaky. I did join LI because I sort of had to. I guess I am not a purist since I post pictures here, but I would probably not block my face if only you guys could see it. YLF group looks kind of tempting.

Yeah, it was on how social networking site users create an identity or profile on a SNS and protect their reputation, both in the short-term and long-term, through use of privacy settings and choice of content on their profile.

Marianne, I'm also very weary of FB. I have social networking experience, but I do not prefer FB. For one thing, their privacy controls and policies (as they are now) make me nervous.

So I would appreciate it if YLF didn't move to FB as yet.

Shiny, I just sent a request to join the group but I'm curious what you do if you don't recognize the person who's applying to join the group (I use a combination of letters in my name for my name on the forum). I guess I'll find out soon enough

Private messaging is one of the features we have on the (long) list of things we'd like to do. It would be great for the reasons you mentioned, Hanna.

There is a facebook fan page as Shiny says. You will find it if you search for "youlookfab" in the facebook interface.

That said, we will NOT be moving YLF features to facebook. Privacy is very important on YLF, and fb is anything but private. If you are very concerned with privacy, then you may not want to become a YLF fan on facebook.

Dani, there is also a YLF group, but we will be shutting this down. The fan page is the one we will use in future. We do not need approval to become a fan, so anyone can join.

I am another one not on FB at all and even YLF is not enough to tempt me to start. I am also leary of non private internet sites. Being so public here is quite a departure for me. I have a personal family website but it is password protected.

I absolutely blame YLF and FB as the reason I have not finished writing my book yet. (Can't .... concentrate ... must check YLF.) But on the bright side, I'll look oh so stylish when I start shopping it around!

This is actually the first forum in which I have ever participated. I actually took a class on web marketing/new media and had to set up FB, MS and a bunch of other profiles on SNS sites to do some research. I suppose it is a generational thing - certainly, most of the 14-30 crowd think nothing of posting pictures, personal details etc on these websites. Other than the fake profile I set up for my class, I have not gone any further on any of these sites (except LI). I do feel the peer pressure through - I keep getting more and more of these invitations from friends asking me to join facebook. I am still on the fence - FB's policies are very scary to me. Oh, and how about Google's plans with tagging - so a friend posts a group picture on some website and tags all the people in the photo. Next thing you know, someone does a google image search on you and there's your tagged picture!!! Yikes!

PM would be a great feature to have on YLF!

Wow, I didn't realize we are on the facebook as well! I just sent a request to become a fan (shiny, I guess you will get it? it is easy to recognize me, because I don't cover my face in the outfit photos I posted here )
