Suburban warrior Princess?!

Wondering if anyone has tips for adding a little edgy to a suburban wardrobe without looking too out of place or contrived?

I love many of the UWP looks that are posted here, but would feel foolish in a room full of jeans, cashmere sweaters and ballet flats/ Uggs ( the local MOTG uniform) in a blazer or studded anything...

Would love any tips for a few pieces to look cooler, but not stand out too much.

Boots. Uggs has a couple of UWP styles, and an amazing pair of boots can up the ante even with cashmere sweaters and jeans (my outfit yesterday was JUST THAT!).... My black buckled boots make everything more warrior-like. Join the tribe!

Una beat me to it - boots! They are both practical and edgy.

Otherwise, I'd say go for some small accessories first - like, maybe a studded belt or a leather wrap bracelet or a metal cuff bracelet. Something like that.

I predict it will be a slippery slope though. You'll be in those edgy blazers in no time!

Boots for sure. And it doesn't have to be studs everywhere either. Look for more rugged buckles, angular textures, asymmetry, military detailing, etc.

What's your climate? Leather jackets are fun! Will match nicely with your new boots.
If you don't want to commit to a leather jacket, how about a military jacket to go with your new boots?

Specifically, engineer boots or riding boots with a bit more hardware than the norm. Doesn't have to be crazy or over the top or studded.

Also maybe a military/utility coat or jacket. Perhaps a hi-lo sweater instead of a standard crewneck cashmere?

I think the color scheme can help a look turn more edgy, too. Rust, olive, grays. Colors you'd find in the military or in a rusted-out car after the apocalypse, lol.

Agree that footwear (boots in particular) can work; love the idea of a leather moto jacket; even jewelry or a handbag can up the ante.

Lace up boots are good too! There's a whole variety, from victorian to combat to rocker. (I have all three - actually my favorites are some midcalf ones that are sort of a hybrid of all three styles.)

I like Rae's list of suggestions - I'm basically a rural warrior princess lol, and I do much of what she's listed. I'd also add some edgier jewelry to the list. Not spiked collars or anything, but maybe a bold cuff bracelet or chunky gunmetal necklace? Belts are a good way to incorporate a touch of bad ass too

Agreeing with everyone else--boots are they best way to ease into SWP mode I vote for some thing with buckles, exposed zips or laces! I prefer mine on the chunkier side too.

There are some excellent suggestions above. Boots are my go to anytime I want to add interest to an outfit. Hardware, straps or an interesting shape. Especially loving booties this season. Slipper flats are a nice change from the ballet flat, maybe with studs or an animal print. Leather detailing is a great touch on pants, jeans, shirts, etc. Graphic patterns, or feminine fabrics like lace cut in a very modern shape. For me, the key is adding one edgy piece and then keeping the rest of the outfit simple.

Love these tips, but I love boots, so this thread just reaffirms that.
A tougher bag would do a lot. Crossbody (so your hands are free to fight crime) with distressed or edgy details.

Thanks for the great suggestions - I think you just wrote my Christmas list! I actually own some studded bracelets and need to acquire the perfect pair of boots and Maybe a moto jacket. Love the ideas, links, pics and terms to google (I've never even heard of engineer boots). Thanks so much!
