Stylish Walking Shoes

Hi all!

You know how most people wear running shoes when they do a vacation trip like Europe where there's tons of walking and touring... I get it, running shoes are comfortable... but I'm super opposed to wearing running shoes for anything else but running (and biking and hiking... you get the picture.

So I'm looking for a comfortable and stylish walking shoe that I can wear on vacation. Something that's versatile enough to wear with many outfits but can survive the massive walking one tends to do while on vacation.

So far, I found a pair of sperry's which seemed to have a thicker sole: http://www.sperrytopsider.com/.....ption=true

I also own a pair of cole hahn loafers which are very comfortable. Not sure if they'll last a whole walking day.

And of course, the Biala Keely shoes Angie posted today were adooorable.

Anyways, any input is much appreciated.

A couple of thoughts. Depending on the shape of your foot, you might try Eccos. Also Clark's, Soffts, and Borns. There's a great website called BarkingDog that gives recommendations for super comfortable but good looking shoes.

I wore my Doc Martens Marcies all around the streets of New York for hours and hours on end without mishap or discomfort.

If you can wear ballet style flats there are lots of options. And I like your idea of the loafers!

I've got a small foot - size US 6-6.5, and my feet are pretty narrow (although, I don't have to buy my shoes "narrow." I'm also flat footed.

I love the DM's. So sexy.

I'm so with you on this! I never ever wear athletic shoes when I travel. I just don't like the look of them. Unfortunately, I have wide feet rather than narrow, so I can't really recommend any shoes. Have you looked on Zappos, though? They stock a ton of comfort shoes, some of which are pretty amazing. I've found Indigo from Clark has very cute, surprisingly modern styling, so I can second Aparna's recommendation there. I also like European brands for walking shoes. I would recommend Think!, but they've recently gone from dressier shoes to more typical comfort shoes (cork soles). Maybe Earthies?

My feet are not narrow but are not wide, either, and my heel is very narrow - and Eccos work very well for that type of foot. Clarks come in a variety of widths, so that can be helpful. My arches are high, so what works for me might not work for you -but I am bumping this up!

Born oxfords make wonderful walking shoes. I traipsed all over Stockholm, Berlin and Berchtesgaden in mine earlier this summer. I have three pairs of these oxfords (all different styles) and I love them and wear them all the time.

You could also check Naturalizer for possibilities. Many of their shoes are specifically engineered for comfort. My foot is a totally different shape from yours, so I can't recommend specific shoes from experience. I imagine that with flat feet, it would be especially important to get good cushioning in the soles.

My aunt, who does a crazy amount of daily walking but never running or hiking, has had good luck with Ecco sneakers. They are gear-ish but definitely don't look like a typical running shoe, just a dark/low-contrast lace-up.

Check out http://www.barkingdogshoes.com for reviews, pictures, and ideas. I had to quit subscribing to her daily email because I was buying way too many shoes. The shoes I bought though we're comfortable and stylish.

I actually wear those Ecco walking shoes as running and gym shoes as well as walking shoes!

All their shoes are geared towards comfort. The walking category is mostly runners, but I did find a few others there that I really liked. A lot of shoes in some of the other categories would likely be suitable as well. I have flat feet as well (narrow at the heel, wide at the front - I have flippers, lol), and I've gotten a lot of my work shoes from them and found them all to be really, really comfortable

I think a lot depends on what time of year it is. I find summer/ warm weather much more difficult because I don't want to wear socks, while in winter I can put a cushioning insole in my normal low-heeled boots or booties and walk all day with no problem.
