i think the most recent movie i've seen with fashionable clothing would have to be "Prime" - uma thurman's character has a fabulous wardrobe!!

Audrey Hepburn's skirt/button up outfit in "Roman Holiday" is just so darling and classic, I'm always looking to emulate it in one way or another:

And of course men of that time were always so impeccably dressed--Cary Grant, Gregory Peck, James Stewart.....I'll think on this and probably post more later.

I adore Wong Kar Wai! In the Mood for Love is one of my all time favorites! And it always makes me hungry for noodles I wish I could wear those beautiful dresses.

Another vote for "Rear Window" and all of Audrey Hepburn's famous movies. And from more contemporary movies, I'd really die to have Andy's post-transformation wardrobe in " The Devil Wears Prada".

Ok, this is for laughs, but back in 80's when my age was in single-digit numbers, I thought that the female cast of soap-opera "Dynasty" had the most incredible wardrobe

Hi Naf, my flight got canceled this morning, and the best they could do was to put us on the same flight tomorrow So in the meantime I am hanging out here to suppress the disappointment of one lost vacation day.

I really like what Monica Vitti wears in The Eclipse and The Adventure. So elegant and chic.

Angie mentioned Gladiator and I'm tempted to bring up HBO's Rome, although technically it's a TV show. I adored patrician ladies' beautiful flowy outfits and hair. Costuming and make up departments did a fantastic job.

Angie, if I remember correctly, you mentioned that you watch Battlestar Gallactica. Did you notice how different versions of cylons tend to dress differently? I'm thinking specifically of different versions of Six and Boomer/Sharon/Athena.

This thread reminds me that I really want to see those Chinese movies, 2046 and In the Mood for Love, and haven't yet! Thank you...I'm going to put them on my Netflix now.

The song Moon River makes me cry and love her style, too... in Breakfast at Tiffany's.

You'd probably like Jean Seberg in Breathless, if you like Audrey and Grace!

I am glad you will see it Angie! Please have in mind that it is a musical- when we left the cinema my husband was very disappointed with that;-))But then, when I forced him to se this movie at home over and over again, he learn to like it....

More movies for our Netflix list! Thanks ladies.

Lena, I LOVE Battlestar Galactica. I have yet to see the 4th series (no time). It’s absolutely BRILLIANT. I sort of want to clean 6 up. She looks tarty most of the time and I don’t fancy her white hair. But I adore Sharon and “the old man” is my favourite. By all means put in Rome. Good one!

Ana, Gladiator is my favourite movie of all time. The score sends me into orbit.

Speaking of 60's attire, I vote for Mad Men on AMC (just started its second season). It's an excellent show and the outfits are superb.

Many of my favorites have already been mentioned--Down with Love, any Hepburn title, and I do love the structure of the suits they put Doris Day in in most of her films. Here's another one--You've Got Mail. I love the simple, classic wardrobe they put Meg Ryan in.

Oh and for the 50's how about Pleasantville with Tobey Maguire and Reese Witherspoon. Since Joan Allen and William Macy are supposed to be the perfect 50's mom and dad you get some pretty authentic costumes. Resse is adorable in her skirt and sweater sets, saddle shoes. So much fun to watch.

I'm going to have to go with Amelie. Love her fun quirky outfits. It isn't a movie on haute fashion, but I think it does a great idea of highlighting that French je ne sais quoi.

Plus, i secretly idolize Audrey Tautou, but in real life and as Amelie.

Oooh, fun topic! By the way naf, I love Wong Kar-Wai as well- Chungking Express is one of my favourites!

Classics:
-Breakfast at Tiffany's- of course
-Bringing Up Baby- with Katherine Hepburn in all her hats and long gowns and that crazy polka-dot robe
-A Clockwork Orange- perhaps we wouldn't wear the clothes outside of Halloween, but the costumes are iconic
-Chinatown- Faye Dunaway in those hats, the old money wardrobe, and a Tom Collins in hand
-Annie Hall!
-Amadeus- I love the extravagant costuming, the wigs, the makeup... I suppose in that case, Dangerous Liaisons also qualifies

Contemporary:
-Reservoir Dogs- those suits!
-Pulp Fiction- the clothing itself is pretty simple, but the suits the hit men wear, and Uma Thurman's costume plus the black bob wig... perfect!
-Casino Royale- Eva Green's wardrobe is to die for

I have a few more:

The Women (1939 version). Elaborate outfits and a ten minute Technicolor fashion show.

To Catch a Thief and Charade. Cary Grant is impeccable in a suit, and Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn are not too bad either

I'm also tempted to mention His Girl Friday and Rosalind Russell's wardrobe, but I don't remember much except that she wears very structured outfits and LOTS of hats.
