Stylish Dogs: Name Your Favorites!

In Unzipped, Isaac Mizrahi says, "It's impossible to have any style at all without the right dog."

We are dogless at the moment - until my kids are a little older - but when I was growing up, we had an Airedale Terrier. SO cute! She was big enough for my brother to wrestle and play with, and a good running companion for me. Almost thirty years later, I still miss her!

So, YLFers, I ask you: which dogs make the most stylish companions? Name your breed, post your photos!

Sweet Shar Pei.....makes my wrinkles less noticeable! His color doesnt come thru really well on this photo, but he has red 'hair' just like mommy!

Hubby and I had the dog of a lifetime, Sheiba, for 13 years. She was a gorgeous and scary-smart German Shepherd. A GS puppy is in our future when we have the time and energy to devote!

We always had dogs when I was growing up - fiesty little dogs that loved chasing squirrels.

I like dogs, but I'm far more a cat person. Can a girl not be stylish with a cat or a goat?

I have two chihuahuas and I think they are the cutest things on earth. I don't carry them around in a handbag or any of that nonsense though! (Only when I travel...)

Rescued is my favorite breed, and the only breed I would consider stylish (of course, there are many breed-specific rescues and even more purebreds at shelters)!

But I, too, am more of a cat person, although I'm an all-around animal lover. Unfortunately, cats don't take well to being used as an accessory, so I can't show them off nearly as much as I would like to.

I'm nominating the Belgian sheepdog for its elegant good looks. The shiny black fur and wolf-like appearance makes this dog a stylish accessory. This is not out current dog, but we've been fortunate enough to have had two of these beauties in our family. For anyone interested, they are intelligent but low maintenance and a great family dog. The only reason we didn't get one this time is that we are getting older and 70+ pounds is a lot of dog. OK now but not when we are in our 70's or 80's.

My dachshunds make me look taller, and therefore thinner. Their red color bookends the color of my hair.

Can you beat my black lab Reva for spunk, sass and versatility?
Didn't think so!
Her shiny coat even gives her the YLF-required textural interest! And her personality...KILLER!

I would be remiss without mentioning the sophistication and pop of colour that a golden retriever can add to an outfit/life. Exhibit B is my former guide dog, McClure, one of the best dogs in the whole world.

Love to admire all of the fabulous doggies here. Thank you for posting pictures - They are all darling! My aunt & uncle have a Scottie dog who is cuter than a button, and his personality is a hoot. He is a one-person dog, though, and unfortunately for my aunt, that person is my uncle. He is super protective of him!

I love pups even though I have cats. My family has/had German Shepherds (my Mum grew up with a GS named Princess who was beautiful) and Greyhounds. My sister is shopping adoption adds for a Great Dane or Rhodesian Ridgeback. I think Rhodys are gorgeous, but for me, pets have always stumbled into my life so I never do much picking. I guess whatever I end up with is my style?
When I was younger I also cared for/walked daily the neighbor's German Shepherd. I loved that dog.

I love these doggie pics! Love the idea of bookending with the dachshund :)! Our beloved pooch is a shelter mutt with fur that is white, gray, cream, and a warm beige (but doesn't really shed!), so he goes with everything and charms everyone he meets. He is irresistibly cute, with a personality to match.

I love spaniels, the wavy ears they have make me go all warm and fuzzy! Here's my furbaby boy Chance he was a rescue dog I only had him 18 months before he passed away. I think he was a springer spaniel and collie cross? a really soppy dog who was a real mummies boy, followed me like a shadow, sat on my lap and wrestled in between BF and I when we were snuggling on the sofa. I still miss him terribly 5 years on x

I don't have one, but I fell in love with my friend's French Bulldog puppies last year. They have such playful personalities, and are really great companion dogs. (Don't tell my Lab mix that I said that!)

I grew up with a Dalmatian, the runt of the litter and so smaller than regular Dalmations. She was beautiful, with one blue eye and one brown, and she ran like the wind. I still miss our Heidi!

My husband loves pugs. We'll be getting one next spring!

I grew up with Shelties and have been fortunate to have two totally gentle, mellow, sweet dogs that are still very playful. It's hard for me to imagine having a different breed after having such good experiences with good-tempered Shelties.

Style points:
* They have REAL but socially acceptable fur coats
* Comes in a variety of neutrals - black, brown, or grey
* Utterly soft, huggable, and non-itchy

I love dogs and have had some fab companions over the years. This is a really sweet post. Laura, your Airedale is a larger version of my Welsh Terrier.

Why, Basenji of course! Long legs, elegant neck, curly tail and bright coat colors? Zep gets compliments all the time (stopped twice today, in fact) but my old Shane was the epitome of cool and stylish. That dog had 'tude! He was my first show dog and knew he was hot stuff. Shane gave us 15 1/2 wonderful years. I miss him so.

My very best accessory is an Australian shepherd. She responded to the camera by asking for a belly rub. In case you were wondering, she feels in no way too big for the cat's bed. Size is all in the mind.
