Styling my mother of the groom dress.

First, thank you for helping me through my “mother of the groom” dressing journey. My shoes are nude and I have the option of a gold bag or a matching nude one. I decided to go with gold accessories because of the nude shoes. I looked EVERYWHERE for new shoes in silver for my oversized feet with no luck. I have the sparkly clip for my hair. I wish to have my hair up in a low bun a la Kate Middleton and dangly earrings. I am in Canada so I found a scarf in case it is cold. I’m still considering other wrap options. I’ve added wraps I tried on but didn’t think worked well.

Questions: 1. Gold purse or matching purse? 2. Scarf wrap or poncho wrap (the one with the white in it is actually blue not black). 3. Do people usually have their make-up done? I worry that I will not look like myself, but I would like to look polished the whole day long.

You look fabulous in your MOG dress and accessories. Be sure everything is comfortable, especially shoes. There will be lots of standing and walking and dancing. I wish I had taken a few dancing lessons with my son.

Love gold accessories with navy dress - great combo ( gold bag is nice option )! Your hair looks great in that slightly lighter shade of brown/dark blond !

You look beautiful! Are the purses in pic 2 and 4 the same? I think either one works well. I like the gold accessories and am wondering if you could find a gold pashmina/wrap to wear to keep you covered. I find the wrap in pic 3 a little dark, and agree with you that the others you tried on are not giving the desired effect.

I’m not one to wear makeup , but like you, wanted to look polished for my daughters wedding. My hair salon also does makeup so I booked a pre wedding session. Glad I did because the results were far too ‘made up’ for my liking. But I was able then to articulate clearly what I did want for the actual wedding day and was very happy with the end result. I felt polished and confident for all the photos.

You look beautiful in this - I really like the cropped topper in #3 but if it is not warm enough - then think either #8 or #9 are dressier than #7. I would wear a coat to and from the venue and use #3 at the event.

As for the bag, both are lovely. I would choose the one that holds everything you want to take. Sometimes these smaller bags are tricky because you need your phone, tissues and make-up for any small touch ups.

As for whether to get the make-up done, that is a decision only you can make. If having it done professionally, I would aim for a trial first. I have had mixed results with make-up artists and prefer to do my own make-up.

If doing your own make-up, I recommend using a primer under the foundation and finish with a fix-it spray (before mascara) as they really help in making your make-up last and not move for a long day. Waterproof mascara will be a must, as you really don't want any tears resulting in panda eyes.

I think you look beautiful and really like the nude shoes. Either bag looks good and Bijou gives good advice on trying your things in the bag first. I actually took a second bag along when I was MOB for the various extra things I needed-my clutch and then a second bag which happened to be the colour of my dress and was sparkly!
I do like your sparkly gold clutch as adding something “extra” but the nude one is really nice too.
The sparkly accessories are beautiful too.
If it were me ( I always over-prepare) I would be taking the smaller wrap with a bigger one in a tote bag or in the car, because you really don’t want to get cold. Of the warmer ones my choice is the dark blue check.

Bijou: Do you have a recommendation on a primer? I've tried some in the past and they don't seem to do much. Someone gave me a finishing spray. It's so funny b/c it says something on the bottle like: While you spray say to yourself: "You are awesome!"

Gold purse- and I like the topper in #3. I did my own makeup even for my own wedding, so team DIY. Dress looks great!

1. Both purses look good to me. The gold one seems more festive.

2. The smaller scarf-wrap in pic 3 looks great. If you need more warmth, the first poncho doesn't look dressy enough to me, second one looks good, third one is kind of awesome but maybe a little too oversized.

3. No comment on makeup.

I think Bijou nailed it! You look wonderful and your outfit will be perfect!

If you choose to do you own makeup, the elf primer available at Shoppers is cheap and works amazingly well - it keeps my daughters heavy dance makeup in place all day at her competitions.

If you choose to have it done, maybe show them your normal makeup and let them know you want them to stay in line with that ... definitely you want to look like yourself and most importantly FEEL like yourself!

I usually have my make-up done for special events if possible. I would go for a trial first so that you can let them know what changes you want to be made.
I have gone to the MAC counters a few times and liked them.

You look lovely, Marija. Love the topper in # 3. I wore something smiliar to my wedding. Thumbs up for the gold bag. My hairstylist is also a MUA and she did my makeup. I looked polished but not overdone for a daytime ceremony.

This is the primer that I use daily as it just smooths out my skin, I often wear this on its own and skip the foundation. As a bonus it has an SPF of 30, so good sun protection (which is essential in Australia, where I live).

I find nude shoes very elegant here with the dress and it would also be my first choice! Sorry to be a spammer, but am I the only one I cannot make out what the wrap in nr 3 is (?) but I see it matches dress with it's darker hue-so guess will work great- then I love nr8, too-for outdoors especially. Not much of a help as I cannot choose between the 2 bags, both are great-but a little sparke never hurts!:-) I also never did professional make-up but I too would want to look polished the whole day long (without looking another person)-so will keep an eye on your thread to learn- please post how you decided--but first of all, enjoy your one of a kind event!:-)

No opinion on the bags as I like them both. Love the darker scarf/shawl in #3

If it is freezing, I will wear my well loved winter coat which is also dark blue and long.

The wrap is just a thicker scarf that I lucked into at a thrift shop. The print is the one under the jewelry, so darker, with the blue running through it.

Thanks for all of your thoughts and opinions. They have really helped me through this process and I will feel confident on a day which can be nerve wracking!

I like the wrap you are wearing in #3, and nude shoes with the simple nude bag. I think you already have plenty of bling in your jewelry, so I don’t think the sparkly gold bag is needed. I really like your plan for your hair. Having your hair and makeup done might be nice, but be sure to tell the makeup artist anything you don’t feel comfortable with.

Primer: I really love Laura Mercer Pure Canvas Primer Illuminating. It's expensive but amazing. Sephora carries it.
