Styling ideas for a silk dress.

My sister has given me this silk dress. I have some black pumps but usually wear flats. Do you think I could wear with black flats? Do you think it needs stockings? I'm thinking for an evening event in spring /Sumner. 2nd photo shows the material close up.

The dress is gorgeous on you, Sally. I think you could wear it with black ballet flats, yes. Or dressy, strappy sandals in metallic, black patent, or a nude tone.

Sally, freebies from family are opportunities to experiment. I see this dress as being somewhat DVF wrap dress. Don't over invest if it is not your style, but DO have some fun trialling something different. Do it with your flats and see how you feel. FWI2' it does look very nice on you - suits your shape.

Runcarla I do have some nude wedges but they are quite casual.
Runcarla, you're right. It's not my usual style but about once or twice a year I have to dress up and while it takes me out of my comfort zone, I need to attend prize giving etc. I have taken some photos of my shoe options. I don't want to buy new shoes because I only ever wear sneakers boots and flats usually.

The dress is very pretty, and I think it would look fine with black, ballet flats. You could also try silver, gold, or nude flats. You don't need stockings if you don't want to wear them.

I like the idea of open toe shoes with this dress, like #1. Sorta 40s style. I actually also like it with the sandals you're wearing...Carribean style
