Styling Help, Please? Cream-Grey-Black Capsule

I love the rich, warm look of cream, but am on the fence about wearing it. I know it is not the best colour for my skin tone (cool) but I like it with my hair colour (warm). Since that is two points in favour of cream for me and one against, I have a handful of cream items in my wardrobe....

In pic #2, 3 cream tops, from left to right -
1. Banana Republic Open Cardigan
2. Cleo V Neck Knit Top
3. Banana Republic Chevron Lace Top (with gold zipper up the back - gorgeous! This is not a great pic, it is similar in colour to the other two tops)

I love the pieces on their own, but they are nearly orphaned because I have a hard time coming up with cream combinations other than:
Cream Top + Grey Bottoms + Black Cardigan or Jacket.

The cream cardigan is a whole other challenge. I have worn it with the Grey pinstriped button down shirt (in #1) to work, but the sleeves of the shirt are a touch too bulky to lay nicely under the cardigan. It usually gets worn with a neutral top and jeans.

My usual supporting players for cream are in pic #1.

So, creative and stylish denizens of YouLookFab, I have some questions for you...

1. How would you style these pieces?
2. What would you add?
3. What accent colours go with grey and cream?

Navy looks nice with grey and cream. Also fuchsia, citron and other jewel tones. I also quite like rust with grey and cream. What size is your chevron top? I have one that is an orphan, I should send it to you if it will fit you! -- it's in the citrony yellow colour.

Agree with Ceit about other possible colours with it. Denim blue and other blues are also great.

I immediately think rust, which would be a real winner with your hair.

Or you could buy a red skirt... ;o)

For me I would pick some form of red that is flattering for your skin tone, but I like the idea of citron (if that's a color that will work for you) it would look so fab with these colors. Taupe would look rich but it seems that you could use a little pop with these basic colors.

Ceit: I had not thought of fuschia, but now it is all I can think about... Citron is a great idea, too. (btw my chevron top is a 2, but sometimes when I eat too many burritos I think I should have bought the 4)

Suz: Great ideas - I can def. see a cooler toned Taupe or Denim jacket over both cream tops.

JR: As I was looking at these clothes earlier today I thought, "I need a magic scarf like JRs to pull these looks together!" Rust scares me a bit, to be honest... I might have a poison eye for warm reds and oranges. :S

Carole: Cool Red/Citron are definitely on the table, and I agree that a pop of colour would be nice.

Rachylou: Yes! How did I not think of houndstooth? My sugar eye almost talked me in to a houndstooth jacket at H&M today...

Emily, I think with your colouring, rust would be a natural. Try some on some time.

I think for a cool color (since you said creme is not best for your skin-tone), adding purples to creme would look lovely with warm toned hair and cool skin as well as blending with your greys and blacks, cool blues would look lovely as well. I love the idea of the fuschia and the navy, really, the possibilities are endless. And of course, a scarf incorporating some combo of these colors may be just what you need.

For a blue-toned red, how about burgundy? I also like plum with these. And tan or camel for warmth that's not too florid.

i treat cream as white, and i wear it with everything.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I really like the idea of robins' egg blue, yellow, and pink. I've put togther a little pinterest board and will be looking for just the right pieces to fill out my little capsule. The colours are a little spring-y, but I'm okay with that.
