Styling a longer cardigan - YouLookFab Forum

Dear Fabbers,
My quest for true to my style and flattering knits continues. This longer cardigan is an outlet find from an Italian company Alpha Studio. I have discovered the brand recently and really like their sweaters. I like the retro feel of this cardigan, although the medium blue color isn’t my best. I tried different styling options and I would like to hear your opinion. I can still return it, but lean towards keeping it, unless you advice against it. I like the retro style, the dressy vibe and the fact it could be worn in different seasons. The outfits are:
1-2. Simple, minimal styling with blue trousers and cream blouse, and also dark blue top under.
3. Classic styling with a silk scarf.
4. Pattern mix with a Missoni scarf and added blush suede boots. Tonal blue bag.
5. Casual with jeans and white/silver platform oxfords. Added a large patterned scarf and a grey bag.

What do you think? Shall I keep this cardigan? Comments, feedback and possible styling tips will be much appreciated.

When I read your words *the medium blue colour isn't my best* - I wondered why you would want to keep it . I think we should all be striving for our best colours, given there is so much out there to choose from, no? Just acting as the devil voice on the other shoulder today

I have no opinion on the colour being good or bad on you - just wanting you to listen to your inner thoughts.....

I'm a big fan cardigans with patterns - love yours! The outfits #1-3 - all look great - the cardigan is the star piece. Mixing different prints gives #4-6 outfits more complicated/modern feel. In the outfits #7-9 I love your scarf however the lighter color of blue jeans is a bit throwing me off - maybe it's just me. Vote to keep fab cardigan and post more photos!

The truth is - I don’t know why, but I like this cardigan. Normally, medium blue is not my favorite color. In this case - in theory, I shouldn’t like it on me, but in reality I rather do. Go figure. Anyway, thank you for being the devil voice on the other shoulder - these are the questions that need to be asked.

Slim cat, thank you for the thorough feedback. I see what you see now - the color of the jeans is off here. I think this would work with white jeans instead.

For what it’s worth I think that this cardigan looks great and is very “you”.I can see you getting a lot of wear from it as it seems to be in line with your style from what I have seen you wear.

Cardiff girl, thank you. It is what I am trying to find - knitted pieces which would fall within “my style”. I try to avoid shopping mistakes I sometimes make especially with knitted toppers - they feel like a good idea, but then remain unworn.

I love the cardigan on you. If it were a solid blue color, perhaps not so much, but the pattern is great on you. And what you wear under it is flattering to your skin. I think it is well proportioned for you and what you are wearing. I find a long cardigan to be very useful during colder months. Vote keep.

In the pictures, it looks quite tailored, especially for a cardigan, so I think it suits you well, and doesn't seem like too much of a departure from your more formal jackets. I particularly love it with the scarves in 3-6. Did you try it with any trousers in non-blue shades? Or perhaps white or cream booties?

To my eye, this interesting cardi really suits your colouring as well as your dressy style, so I vote keep. Your #1-6 look great! I imagine a lot of additional styling options: dark blue, black or white jeans, a white skirt, a column of colour in red or pink, white footwear, white pearls ...

It looks darker than medium blue on my phone screen, and the print is great. Combined with the simple style, it has a bit of Asian flair that I really like for you. And it seems to me that your signature scarves give you an opportunity to put your more favored colors near your face. I quite like the cardigan!

Yes, I agree that since it is very stuctured, this cardigan is actually more like a jacket but less formal, so exactly the sweet spot for which I think you are aiming. I especially like it with the Missoni scarf.

With the first pic I thought it a bit too graphic-retro for your style, or the pattern not dramatic enough or something, if that makes sense. But when styled with the scarves it blends in beautifully with your typical looks, so if you like it, then do keep!

I think the structure of this cardigan and the pattern really work for you. The color is not a problem at all. I think if you're going to reach for any knitwear at all, it would be something like this so you may as well keep it. You look great!

I really like this on you. As per others, the pattern and slight structure make it different from just another long cardigan. I think it looks polished but a bit more effortless and " approachable" than a blazer, so, a nice change- up.
