style me pretty? Blue dress purchased. Hourglass/curvy.

I often struggle to find outfits that are remotely flattering. When I find something I do like, I can't seem to put things together properly. I'm an hourglass with very large boobs, size 14.

I have a work Christmas do this week which is a formal dinner event/awards ceremony. I eventually settled on a cobalt blue bodycon dress with navy panelling down the sides (Main body: 88% polyetser 12% elastane. Contrasting panel: 98% polyester 2% elastane). It is very fitted so will require Bridget Jones pants. It has loose cap sleeves and a high scoop neck (collar bone visible) and fits to just above the knee.

I basically need a jacket of some kind and suggestions on footwear. I'm not the most delicate of people so will need something that's easy to walk in such as a solid heel.

What a great dress! Are you sure you need a jacket? I wouldn't cover up the great detailing on the dress, unless you think you'll be cold without a topper. If you need a jacket, a collarless or mandarin collar black moto would be great. Something like this: http://www.dressbarn.com/detai.....948919/150

I live in the UK and it's pretty darn cold here so I'd need something to keep the chill off on the way there and back.

I was originally thinking black as I already have black heels I feel comfortable in and black tights. But then I started seeing white blazer combos with this colouring and got a little confused as to what direction to head.

I LOVE the suggestion of the black jacket. Very much something I know I'll wear again too

Hopefully I'll find one when I'm out tomorrow. I'll be taking the dress with me too so I can try it on with the jacket.

You're welcome! Here in the middle part of the US I would need something to cover my arms en route, but maybe not while I'm there.

I wouldn't wear it when I'm there, especially since it would seem quite rude to eat in a jacket. I was thinking I'd have to go in a suit jacket or fitted blazer but I definitely prefer your suggestion as far more versatile. I already have blazers for work, so it's nice to have something I can switch up with other more casual outfits too.

That is a gorgeous dress. I think black shoes would look great with it especially if you already have them. I picked up a metallic loose knit sweater a few years ago and it works really well as a cover up for semi-formal dresses. A fashionable friend even borrowed it once to attend her son's grad (Cdn prom).

@Zibbets: I'm a new member so I don't think that's something available to me yet as there is no button that I can see.

@dianthus: I struggle finding sweaters that don't make me look too bulky (I'm top heavy) but I'll certainly keep an eye out for a wrap version to see how well that works. Be nice if I can find other ways to wear the dress

My shopping trip today was an unsuccessful one. Wrong styles or wrong fit so nothing really worked. I did pick up a deep blue crochet-style scarf that has a little sparkle in it which would also work as a shawl if I haven't found anything suitable by Thursday. I would be very cold in that instance though.

I have ordered a biker-style jacket from the same place I ordered the dress. It's not a mandarin collar as recommended but the fit seems to work for what I want and I've seen a few images that suggest it should work, such as:

I'm also fairly familiar with their sizing so, providing it's what I want, it should fit.

@thimblelina: Thank you for the comment! I am wearing black tights and a solid heel/slight platform type of shoe. They're the 'old faithfuls'. I would love to find a pair of boots I find comfortable but would work on a classy night out though!

Thank you, darla! I actually hate shopping because I find it so stressful, but I love that 'I think I've cracked it' feeling when things come together. Now I'm looking forward to it

I've celebrated by ordering a bunch of thermal items to donate at the weekend to a local charity for homeless people. I know that sounds like an odd way to celebrate but I feel excessive amounts of materialistic spending needs a balance (I've spent more this month of 'one' outfit than I have on several in the last few months)

I dislike my ginormous chest. The jacket arrived. The jacket fits. But there's a awful lot of flap about so though it fastens up, if you leave it open all you see is flap and zip and hangs open loose when open, making me look stocky. If I got the smaller size, it wouldn't fasten up. It's not quite the sofisticated look I was going for... *sigh*

Thank you, unfrumped Tried it on quite a few times since I bought it to test various accessories out. I can officially say I don't hate it. Shame that I rarely have occasions to wear dresses like that so it'll be one of those nice items that will be unworn after Thursday unless I sell it...

As promised, it's not with the leather jacket as we handed them in at the cloakroom, but was actually very comfortable in it! We had a fab night

Still think it's a really great dress with some longevity, so I'd hold onto it! You may find a way to wear it with other toppers or dress it up or down more.

You look great in your dress! I share the same large chestiness. It is so challenging! I rarely wear a jacket zipped....it just doesn't seem to work out with getting the shoulders to fit and getting everything in there. I also find that I have to try on a lot of cover ups to find the right one for a dress and each dress seems to require a different cover up. One of my surprising favorites is a black thigh high cardi that is very thin (pic below). It just skims the body and doesn't add any bulkiness. I don't think it would work for your blue dress but just something that you might consider for other dresses.
