Monica Vitti, wearing her skirt outfits in "l'Avventura" #1,2 is my style icon.

Don't expect a copycat from me - I don't like to wear skirts, I don't like the feel of tights, I can't walk in pumps.
If only I could find her perfectly fit pullovers in stores *sigh*. When will fashion designers understand crew neck sweaters are not supposed to look like bodycon tee-shirts or sweater dresses ?

Anyway, googling her, I found 2 aspects of her style I could relate to :

- she wears menswear classics (peacoats, military coats, shirts)

- she wears graphic prints (dots, stripes).

Just wanted to share the pics I found, hope you enjoy her style.

Her style is stunning. Everything still looks very current and chic today. I am hoping to see your interpretation with pants, of course

I'd almost forgotten about her. My high school boyfriend used to say I reminded him of her. I can see why, looking at the clothes. But probably it was her angstiness in one of her roles. I do still like and wear those looks.

The first two looks are exactly what I'd like to wear except I would have to wear tights. Does it make sense to you to wear such a sweater with bare legs?

I agree with you that the difference here is the substantial sweater.

I love that diagonal stripe dress. Also the white outfit. And yes, #1. You are right about the fit of the crew necks. Fluid fit welted bottoms but not too much excess...hmmmm.

Yeah. I've always loved the way she dresses. In an amazing coincidence, my husband is just finishing up a painting based on the second picture you posted--the one with the hat. I got to fill in for her for the tough arm angle. Luckily, since I adore that era, I had the sweater and pencil skirt.

She's amazing. I can see why she appeals to you, despite the dresses, skirts, and heels. She has a masculine streak to her style (the menswear classics you point out) and she exudes a feminine strength. I can easily see you in outfit 3.

I love her style and her bold gaze -- and the tailored clothing with ease is so fresh to my eye -- this was before the days of stretch everything.
