Style goals 2018

Ok it’s been tricky but I think I have my style goals roughly mapped out for the year.
1) continue to shop my closet. Last year was a big wardrobe building year so I am reeling it back in now.
2) When the weather gets colder around May I plan to add 2 new pairs of flat booties, one in taupe.
3) Add a fantastic new pair of blue jeans. Most likely in a classic blue slim bootcut as I already have a few pairs of trend jeans and think I just need to have a new pair of “workhorse” classics.
4) If my budget allows, I would also love to add a tan leather jacket.
5) Continue to shop thrift for interesting tops, especially silk.
6) In terms of overall style, this is where it’s tricky to pin down. I love the artsy/ornate/boho look, but when I look at my outfit pics the look is so watered down that it’s barely noticeable! I have attached some pics, if anyone has feedback/tips/style descriptors that would be amazing. Sorry about the poor quality pics.
The look I really want to project is feminine, gentle and artistic.

I think your outfits are terrific and really meet your style goals. I don't think they are watered down versions at all. The Boho Bird skirt will be a wonderful addition to your wardrobe.

Thanks Bonnie; it's great to hear that because I was worried that the outfits veer a bit further into the practical/classic realm than what I'm actually going for. Yes the boho bird skirt is tempting me.

Hi jussie, Truthfully, I did see both boho AND classic (but that's OK--it's a cute look! And it projects the feminine vibe you desire.) You might bring out the boho a bit more with scarves and/or statement boho jewelry? I usually think of boho as being more layered.

You are super cute jussie, and how LOVELY to see you post your fabulous outfits. #1, 2 and 3 are my faves. I adore that blouse in your second outfit. Fabulous with the fringed jeans.

Wise goals and nice pictures. And I think you DO project a look that is feminine, gentle and artistic. My favourite is #3--you look FAB in this feminine and chic outfit which would be perfect for spring and summer and could also be styled with sandals (perhaps wedges) in one or more of the skirt colours. I also like your leopard wrap/jacket in #1--it has fun and artsy vibes and can be styled in several ways.

For feminine, fun and artsy partywear with 70s' vibes, I imagine the white blouse and fab golden necklace in #4 worn with the widelegged trousers in #7. Or your patterned green jacket in #6 worn with the blue trousers and green shoes in #4 plus a simple top. The pink shoes in #3 would look lovely with your blouse and pants in #2. But you probably already know this ...

Some words about colours: Blue jeans and tan leather jacket sound perfect for you. Soft colours look GREAT on you and emphasize your very beautiful soft coloring. I guess that colours like offwhite, dusty rose, periwinkle, toffee and olive would be lovely on you. For jewellery, rose gold might be a good choice. And pretty stones like amethysts, turquoises and opales (perhaps worn as pendants) can look both feminine and artistic. Be aware that stark white, black and strong bright colours might tend to overpower you unless you mix them with softer colours near your face. Besides, soft colours often look very gentle and feminine.

4 is my fave. 5/6, I think has really got it going on and then 7. Those are the ones that I see artistic, gentle and feminine really showing up. Maybe it’s the flowiness...

2,4,5, and 7 really capture your goals and look great in any case. Rather than watered down I think you should think of your look as subtle - not all the beautiful details have to shout and sometimes people will get an impression without consciously paying attention to the details.

Wow! These are great looks. I am coming right over to steal 5-6 from you and you are rocking the HECK out of 7.

I agree with rachylou, the flowiness is what telegraphs “arty” to me in many of these looks. Some of the others like 3 and 8 more strongly read “feminine” I think because they are more classic — but I do still see the arty element come through in your use of strong color and pattern.

I hope you post more pictures, I really like your style!

And I look forward to hearing how your shopping for tops goes, that is a major weak point for me and I am struggling to find much that I’m interested in.

Excellent, focused goals I think you are doing a great job with these outfits. I love your look. I see the feminine, artsy boho vibe in most of these - the flowy fabrics, floral prints and fun details like the fringe jeans and green shoes are lovely and fun. The trim on the jacket in 5 just makes it. And I want the pants in #7. I'm coming to Melbourne.

I wish I did better in thrift stores. I too often get caught up in the thrill of the hunt and prices, and end up with random things that don't work in my closet or life (hence one of my goals to be identify what I need very patient about finding it). But they are a great way to try out a new direction with low commitment.

Hi Jussie! Lovely to see you. YLF! I think these outfits fit in perfectly with your desired “look”. The combination of yellow and black in the last outfit does strike me as more bold than gentle, but it looks great on you (and plenty artsy and feminine). I could see the denim maxi working for you too. And man, I love those pants in pic 7. Where are they from?

Yes, some of the outfits aren’t really in line with my style goals, esp number 8. I can see that more clearly after reading people’s comments. Also a couple of people noted that they equate flowiness and layering with boho/artsy. I will ponder on that! I’m realizing now that maybe aiming for a full-blown boho/artsy look would actually be impractical in real life... maybe like Angie mentioned in a post ages ago boho-lite is the way to go.
Thank you for the colour tips, someone mentioned toffee, Amethyst and dusty rose.... mmmm I love those colors. I must look for toffee items on my thrifting missions.
Also thanks for the positive feedback on the palazzo pants, they’re from Topshop.
Writing down my goals has already been clarifying; today I didn’t purchase pair of white jeans that I saw because even though I love the way others have been styling them on ylf I feel that they are more crisp and dressy than what I’m aiming for.

IMO, all looks qualify for "boho" and "artsy" and project what you aim at, except #8 which feels more classic. #7 is my favourite, it looks fabulous!
Also I think your planned purchases are well thought out and in line with your goals.

Your outfits are definitely meeting your style descriptives. The lighter colored 'boho' flowy outfits are lovely on you. I love the drama of the wide patterned pants, too. I think you've found the intersection of 'boho', 'artistic', and 'feminine' that is perfect for you.

I really like your looks and see a feminine creative spirit in them. I think you are capturing your intention well without it becoming overwhelming.

I think your additions will work brilliantly - taupe, toffee, mid blue jeans.

2 3 and 7 are my favourites but really they are all good looks. I can see 8 as a bit bolder but still creative.

Here is something else I think may work well to create the boho/fem/gentle vibe. A friend has this dress and it’s absolutely beautiful in real life, although she is very tall and hourglass shaped so it may not be as effective on my frame.... https://lazybones.com.au/colle.....3169362981

The first outfit was the only one that felt maybe a bit watered down to me. The rest are all really very good, and #7 stopped me in my tracks (love love love it!)

You look so pretty! I love your outfits and they give a really good sense of your style. The boho bird skirt would be a great addition. My favourites of the outfits you show are 2 and 3 but they are all terrific on you. The blouse in #2 is brilliant on you!

It seems like the blouse in #2 (Zara) and the #7 palazzo pants (Topshop) have stood out to people as being especially good. This is useful info, because now I will style up some other outfits with those, as I hadn’t been wearing them a lot thus far. Such useful feedback.

Jussie- I agree with Sal that you have captured a feminine creative spirit in your clothing. Your outfits are lovely and you are too I can see an arty/boho influence too especially in #1,5, & 7 which are also my favs. I think the Estelle dress would be lovely on you. I do love that blouse in #2 also.

Wonderful looks, and all so varied for different activities, but while retaining the same vibe.

The Lazybones dress is cute. I think you should try it. You can definitely pull off the float statement piece.

You have great goals and a wardrobe that looks successful in supporting a feminine, gentle arty look. I like 4 the best with these elements showing. The pants look gentle, the blouse is feminine and your shoes look arty.

Great choices. For me, I want to get some great timeless pieces that I can wear a lot and that work for almost every season if possible!
