Style descriptors for me?

I thought about my style descriptors yesterday and posted my thoughts on Sharon's thread. I didn't have a style statement that resonated with me for a while and I wanted to give the style descriptors another try. Here's what I came up with:

Simple:
No frills. Unpretentious. Uncluttered. Pared down.

Grounded:
Practical. Laid-back. Rustic. Comfortable. Tomboyish. Natural.

Feminine:
Soft. Composed. Colorful. Harmonious. Intuitive. Chic.

Do you think these descriptors fit? Would you add more? Does any of the terms mentioned deserve a rubric of their own?

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Astrid, I'm not sure I think "simple" describes your look. If I recall correctly, you wear quite a few prints. Somehow I don't think prints are simple. But of course I could be wrong. I like the other two descriptors.

Thanks Catnip! Maybe my view on what the term simple means is wrong, but to me prints don't exclude a look from being simple. I'm not sure what would be a better term, what I'm thinking about is simple in the meaning of schlicht. Although you might be right because searching for schlicht on Pinterest turns up a sea of solids.

Hmmm, I have to admit to being confused as under the heading of Grounded you mention tomboy and yet you have a main heading of feminine, which is in my book, the exact opposite.

I think Simple works as you describe it and the opposite of cluttered. Except for scarves, I don't think of you as wearing lots of accessories. Even patterned pieces can have simple lines and no extra ornamentation.

These words together make a lot of sense to me, and I see them in you, Astrid.

Schlict btw is a good word, fitting. I might say "without question" or "sober", which isn't quite right I know. I myself am looking for an alternative for "appropriate"... something not so repressive (!)

I think simple works but if you are looking for an alternative...along similar lines I used all three of these in my list of adjectives- relaxed, uncomplicated, minimal. They are similar yet I saw enough differences to use all of them.

Would one of them work better than simple?

Actually I think these fit you perfectly. I think I also have the same connotations for the words as you do.

I also think they might point particularly to different aspects of the clothes - so simple might be most useful when looking at tailoring (cut, buttons, lines are direct and unfussy). Grounded - in my mind references fabrics, care instructions, and tends to refer to items that contact the elements, outerwear and shoes, as well as the practicality and usability in your life. Tomboyish also fits here for me because it usually refers to clothes that are androgynous because of their across the board utility. Feminine - this is the what looks and feels flattering on you rubric.

Or that's what is evoked in my head at least.

I think with these words I kind of only want to add ones that I need to remind myself of. So I can say 'Graceful' and for myself that partly evokes minimalism and a limited color palette, but those things are so taken for granted in my wardrobe that I don't need a separate word to remind me, if that makes sense

That's why I can see your word 'simple' working for you without having to unpack it into 'relaxed, uncomplicated, minimal'.

Joy, I totally agree.

Diane, I don't think those two negate each other. I would say feminine plays an important part, but I do have my Tomboy influences too (like my watch for example). I was a tomboy during my teens and sometimes I like to take that up again. I think it was E who mentioned the concept of Girly Tomboy a while ago.

Thanks Rachylou! How about reasonable instead of appropriate? Or befitting, but that's also repressive.

Thanks Susie! I'm not sure. I wouldn't say minimal fits and relaxed is kind of a part of grounded for me. Uncomplicated fits, but I think simple encompasses more of the terms I want to express.
