Style Definition Challenge: Casual

There seems to be a great deal of interest in defining one's personal style. I avidly following these discussions and have been inspired to create this challenge.

Go to Polyvore http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/app to begin.

Please start with a pair of denim blue jeans and a black t-shirt or turtleneck and then add pieces to create a casual outfit that best represents you. Price is no object!

Label your outfit using one of the style profiles on YLF and then add your name or username to personalize the look.

Post your outfit on YLS for all to enjoy!

I'll be interested to read the thread of people's casual styles. Mine has nothing to do with
jeans. I tried to find a representation of what I was actually wearing today and gave up in frustration. Black capris with those preppy embroidered motifs: little flowers in copen blue and pale peach. Black slightly scoop neck tee, short cap sleeves. I call it Country Club Sour.

I don't have the patience to go play on Polyvore to be honest, lol. But (summer) casual style for me lately is a cargo skirt, dressier woven tank, and sandals.

How fun! I do have a Polyvore and pinterest account, but somehow I didn't manage to save my draft today - don't know why. I took a screenshot of it instead, hope that's ok with you.

What my style persona is, is a tricky question. I believe this is a modern classic with a sporty twist.

First time I've used Polyvore; it was fun. I'd call my casual look Old Lady Chic. This is pretty close to what I wear almost constantly--with a scarf added on for a bit of color.

I'm new to this....I have a top, bottom, bag and shoes, but can't get any accessories. Help?

Well, I have no idea how to post my polyvore. I'm not techie at all. It won't let me copy and paste, so....

I don't wear pants. I chose a maxi skirt, black tee, snakeskin bag and B/W Chanel flats. I wasn't able to add any other accessories so it was a boring look compared to me in real life. Sorry!

Instead of using the template, try clicking "New" and then just drag stuff on to the canvas. You can re-size by clicking and dragging.

I didn't want to set up an account, so I just used the screen capture to save the image to my desktop. If you use a Mac, use Command/Shift/4 to get the crosshair icon that you can use to drag over the screen to copy and save the section that you want to the desktop. It's been too long since I've worked in Windows, so I can't remember the command for that action in Windows.

I used the "new" feature too, but I didn't manage to publish my post even when I logged in. I use Skitch for Mac, and a great option for screen capture in Windows is Jing by TechSmith.

I'm really enjoying your posts, everybody! It's fun to see how different a canvas of black tees and blue jeans can be interpreted - or any other basic starting point.

shabbychick, try to make a screen capture, save the capture to your hard drive and upload it as an ordinary .jpg file. Are you on a pc? try this nifty little program: http://www.techsmith.com/download/jing/default.asp

I would wear that in a heart beat. The only thing there that I don't own something similar of is the scarf color. I would have to choose purple or red.

I didn't look at the cost but I loved picking things I would actually wear and a heel height in my reality!

Just saw the challenge. Here is my Polyvore. I don't think I would wear a black tneck with jeans (although I have one), but I also chose an alternate top - gray/white stripe blouse. The first items I picked are based on some that I already own: olive corduroy blazer, blue/green/turquoise print scarf, Skechers slip on tennies. All really looked fine with the black and I am definitely low contrast, so maybe I would wear this after all. The alternate top is going to be paired with a new gray and gold striped cardi - with wider stripes than this one has but the colors are similar.

The brown/gray/white/pink/red scarf just appealed to me, so I threw it in. would possibly wear with the black tneck and a black blazer.
Thanks for the challenge - this was fun, and I enjoyed looking at the other combos!
