Strong-shouldered velvet blazer: can I wear it?

I took my mom to Nordie's to buy a sweater the other day, and was SORELY tempted by this velvet blazer which fit me perfectly in the petite section:

As an IT, I would normally avoid this shape, but it fit so nicely. What do you all think? Along the lines of Maya's post, do we have to dress to balance our shape?

I have already been mildly SYC and not bought anything recently...

If it fits you right, I think it will be great. I have a soft spot for velvet blazers.

I'm assuming that by "fits you nicely" you mean it doesn't make you cringe when you look in the mirror. Personally, if I were you, I'd snap it up in a heart beat! I think it's awesome.

Jeneva and Maya, I fully expected it to make me cringe, but I tried it on for fun and was amazed at how flattering it actually was. I'm not that horrified by my shoulders anyway. This cut doesn't seem to have the same widening effect as the puffy sleeves. I guess the best way to know is to post some "Keep or return" photos!

Great jacket and I'm glad you're going to try it.

Just maybe its strong-shoulders accomodate your IT perfectly - as opposed to it creating a strong shoulder line on someone who doesn't have one. . . ?

If you like it, go for it. I also have a strong shoulder line. Today at Anthro, I tried on a cute jacket with pleated sleeves..deep discount or I would never have tried it. The sleeves were set in in a way that balanced my shoulders..total surprise. Learned that you have to try it. Some may work.
Love the velvet jacket, btw.

Get it and post some photos before you cut the tags.

I'm happy wearing jackets that emphasize my shoulders a bit, but once it reaches a certain point I just look ridiculous. If you liked how it looked then you probably found one of the good ones that makes us look strong, but not like a football player.
