Stripe top & tapered crop pants, yay or nay?

Another dressing room survey! The top would probably not get much wear until fall, but it's the first stripey top I've been tempted to buy.

The pants are Joes Jeans very lightweight cropped, tight at the calf. I can sit and squat in them, and I feel the material loosening a bit even just in the fitting room. 100% cotton so not stretchy. What do you think? I'm astounded they fit, I picked up a 28 by accident.

Yes on the top. I have two striped tees and I wear them all the time, so I'm a bit biased. But if you're anything like me, you'll get tons of wear out of it. It looks great! I'll leave to the "wise-about-cropped-lengths" to weigh in on the pants, but it seems like they fit the criteria (ie, you wear them with heels, they are narrow and fitted to the leg...)

I think I like the striped top, what is the hem like? Is it bunched up in the picture or is it a twisted hem? Not sure on the pants, hopefully others can chime in on those.

What is happening at the bottom of the top? Is it bunching?

The hem of the top is lightly elasticized, a twisted band that finishes in a small knot in the center.

Thanks, Janet. I'm going to be a spanner and vote nay on the top. It looks a little short and the elastic a little tight. The knot untidy in a not so fab way.

However, it could be a bad photo which is why I'm seeing what I'm seeing. Sorry

Hmmm...I just thought it was sort of bunched up or semi-tucked. Maybe take another photo when you get home and post, so we can see it better.

I adore that top on you until the hem, which is just too distracting for my eye. I would fully endorse a similar top with a regular hem.

I'm going to be a little "otherwise". I love the top, but I'm a bit dubious about the pants (but isn't it nice fitting into a smaller size?) I guess the photo is also taken at a bit of an unusual angle, but I think that the tapered, cropped pants might make your legs look shorter, in other words, making you look wider than you really are! Ugh. I sound so critical - so sorry about that. But I really LOVE the top and shoes!

Thanks, all. I'll have to try another picture at home and see if it works better. Some things don't photograph well, and that may be an indicator that they don't look great, but sometimes I think the lack of dimension in a picture does create illusions.

I love the pants, I think they fit really well. They're narrow all over, cropped at the right point and not wide at the bottom... Perfect with high wedges like that!
As for the top, I'm not sure about the bunching at the bottom, maybe a better picture?

Hi gang, I tried on the top & pants this morning but no time for a good pic. The top is going back. The problem was not so much from the front as from the side -- the gathered hem created a little pouch-like effect, and I don't even have a belly! I didn't even notice that in the fitting room. I love the way the neck and top of that shirt drape on me, but oh well.

I think i still like the pants. I'm really picky about cropped pants, but I think these work well. I'm going to get my husband's opinion too.

If you want to talk me out of them, Angie, I'm listening!

If the top is not tucked, I vote nay, too much bunching. The pants, if you say they are not tight I'll take your word for it. They look a tad tight on the calves in the photo though.
