Shredded bf jeans have picked up a little steam just past the border of Hipsterville. I find that interesting. Plain bf's never got any traction.

Also, booties seem to be waning.

Interesting. We had two young ladies visiting from Berlin this past weekend and they wore bright white Nike sneakers. Apparently that is what "everyone" (aged 12-15 anyway) is wearing there. Their mother was not wearing white sneakers, btw.

In Downtown Chicago I'm starting to see more of the bearded hipster look really different and fashion forward here. They seem to roam together in large packs.

I can't get behind the shredded jeans look. It's too "real" out here in the rural zone - meaning, the only people who wear them truly can't afford to buy new ones. My BF's were never baggy so I guess they still feel perfectly in style to me. And booties are waning? Is that because the weather is heating up?

I thought I responded to this yesterday, but I guess my response went either poof or I forgot to hit submit.
Anyways Dad and I were grocery shopping yesterday. Dad said there was one woman who was trendy because her the knees on her jeans had holes, like mine. He also said he didn't understand that trend at all. I found it funny that he called it trendy. Though maybe I should avoid my distressed jeans around him.

Lots of distressed denim and sneakers in my neck of the woods, although I don't think all of it is intentionally trendy.

I dunno, I'm really starting to feel like anything goes these days, at least in the circles I intersect with. At a gallery opening a few days ago, I saw everything from normcore to boho to retro to whackadoodle. More and more, I'm feeling like this is an era to find your own signature style and run with it.

Krish - I mean flat ankle booties. Walking town(s). Not too many heels in general.

Angie, that's a good question about what people are wearing. I want to say retro sneakers (but not bright ones, including white) and chucks and flats. Maybe sandals. We've had quite a stretch of hot hot unseasonal summer weather. But I must check. It was the absence that caught my attention.

You mean outside of the hipster enclave? I've seen more shredded jeans too than I ever saw baggy bfs. 'Course I'm still wearing baggy bf's because I like them. I'm still seeing quite a few booties in both worlds -- which makes sense in cool drizzle.

I'm kind of chuckling at Janet's gallery opening thought -- because I agree that is a great place to see a very wide and anything goes approach to fashion. On our gallery walk nights when I go out it's to people watch (I go a few days after to have alone time with the art).

rabbit - yes, that's the perfect term: hipster enclave. Baggy harems more the thing within the enclave. And leggings/jeggings/skinnies.

Also, everybody's wearing floods, in and out of the enclave...

It will be interesting to see if folks in the BIG CITY change things up now that Easter is past and Spring has sprung! Before my vacay a nice top, statement necklace, and flowy cardi over skinnies or pencil skirt - and everything, but the top, in black or grey was the uniform. Booties, dark hose, and puffers 'cause it was still cold and windy. However, all the outdoor decor - resto window boxes and planters, etc. still had evergreens and Christmas arrangements!

Daylight savings, above freezing temps, no snow...(and personally spring purchases, haircut) - I'm ready to change things up!

Booties are waining? Say it isn't so! I love the look of them. They can really add that element of pizzaz to an outfit.

I have seen a lot of distressed (mostly only slightly but some extremely distressed) BF jeans in the stores. I still love my boyfriends but I'm liking them with a slimmer cut these days as opposed to the overly sized up ones.

Interesting. In my medium-sized midwest city, ankle boots never caught on that much. But taller boots caught on like gangbusters--everyone was wearing them last fall and winter!

During a mall walk last week, I only saw boyfriend jeans on the high-school demographic, and they (the jeans) were way distressed--more holes than denim, really.

We're going to Chicago this weekend; can't wait to check out the street style there!

Booties are HUGE in Seattle - year round. A very practical shoe. Tall boots are still very popular too. And sneakers - WOW. Everywhere. Birkies as soon as it warms up.

Ok. Definitely sneakers of all varieties (but so much Converse), sandals, clogs, and shoe shoes - as in loafers and lace ups.

It probably is. But just seems so early to me to put them (booties) away and wear nothing but sandals and sneakers. On the other hand, we hit 80+ today...

I've been travelling the world for work and I see bf jeans are almost universal in most countries I have travelled to.

As for booties, in the tropical countries, you are right, I see everyone is wearing either strappy sandals or Converse.

In northern countries booties or even tall boots seem to be in vogue, at least I hope so. I am still wearing my knee highs daily ....

Thought I'd give a report on the kids on the street at one Australian uni. They are pretty well dressed, compared to campuses I have worked on before!
Even though we are technically well into autumn, it is still warm, 27-28 degrees. So I'm still seeing a lot of short shorts and short rompers/jumpsuits. Not a look I can pull off at 42 but fun! So it's shorts, singlet and a long line cardigan.
On shoes, students don't wear heels on campus (I wear 1-2 inches as I'm short and I need to see over the lecturn! But anything else is impractical. The students are putting away their thongs (always Havianas!) and moving to closed shoes. I'm still seeing lots of booties, probably more than sneaks, but a mix of both really.
As this is my first year in Brisbane I feel like an anthropologist.

I'm seeing lots of tight skinny jeans with distressing and holes, many looking DIY. Footwear...mostly gladiators. Surprise was more woven blouses than knitwear and tees for tops. This from the Plaza area of Kansas City where most make an effort to show their style.

Warm temps brought about quite a change in outfits on the street in Toronto! More colour, lighter hose and bare legs, dresses. I saw one boyfriend jeans outfit ripped at the knees, with brown loafers and green army jacket! Since I'm located in the financial district looks are a little more conservative - so, dresses, skirts. Hems are a good 10 inches above the knee in most cases. Ballerina flats and lots of those canvas Tom's shoes. It seems EVERYONE has a short trench.

So interesting!... we're headed back down the temp scale and possible showers... Another explanation, I'm not in SF anymore, which is on year 'round mild winter - so perhaps always more booties to be seen there.

Btw - I meant to say *not* so much Converse as I was thinking.

Well, I'm not going to worry about any of this. Trends are very slow to get here and very slow to leave. What do I see when I go out and about? Sweats, jeans of all sorts (not the fashionably distressed type), and sports logo shirts. What can I say? It's a college town, and people wear their colors. Not much fashion at all......Blah......

It has me worried, Staysfit - lol, because I am feeling a need for a pair of flat (as in no heel at all) booties. I'm doing a lot more standing and walking than sitting, and my sneakers need a break. I've been wearing them every day. (Also I don't do sandals below 80 F...)

I found this Seattle street style blog. But the photographer has a pretty specific aesthetic and honestly this is far from the majority of the population here.

For example when she's around 5th and Pine, where Nordies and Pacific Place mall, which has Barneys, she seems to never find standard fashion people. I see a lot of labeled handbags in that area.

Even her Ballard pics, aren't really showing the new Ballard of tons of condos and apartment buildings and new affluence.

I see New Balance sneakers often, but not on her blog.
