Rae's recent grappling with styling her new haircut has made me think a bit more about some recent attitude shifts I've had about my hair.
My hair was a source of torture when I was young. It was curly and I hated it. I fought it and tried various ways of straightening it, only to have our humid climate turn it to frizz as soon as I walked out the door. But over the years, straightening products and tools have become better, and my hair has also changed in texture and thickness, so it's easier to control now.
But still, my hair defaults to wavy, and I struggle to get my hair sleek and straight like my stylist does, so I have been in the habit in recent years of just doing some moderate straightening (blow dryer and maybe a few minutes with the flat iron, but I don't have patience for more than that).
Since my last haircut, I've been letting my hair go natural far more often. The surprising thing is, I think I'm starting to like it -- and maybe even prefer it -- that way. Some of you may have noticed me wearing it wavy in my WIWs more often.
So I'd like to get some feedback. What do you think suits me and my style better: straight or curly? Straight generally looks edgier and more rock'n'roll. I have searched for interesting hairstyles for shorter wavy hair and most of them leave me cold -- they're too romantic or too fussy or too... something. But I really kind of want to make this work for me, to stop fighting my hair's nature so much.
I do like my current cut, but I'm always open to changing things up when the time comes for a new cut. Today I encouraged the curl a bit and took pics -- #1-3 (the second and third overexposed so you can see the texture a bit better). And I included a couple of recent outfit photos, the blue jacket one with my hair straightened, and the sparkly shirt one is sort of in-between.
I'd love to get some feedback on this and how it relates to my style persona. Angie, if your wrist and schedule allows, and you read this, I'd love to get your take on it as well.
