Hi guys!

I'm looking for ideas on how to store my tanks and camis. Right now they are just hanging on hangers in my closet--but they are taking up way too much room. I have a lot of them--probably 20 or more.

I don't want to put them in drawers, because I don't wear things I don't see.

I have one of those hanging sweater holders that has individual compartments for sweaters. This works really well for my sweaters and fine knits. I have 9 inches of space next to that sweater hanger, that I could hang something similar, but much more narrow. I was thinking maybe a hanger designed for shoes or purses might fit in there, but I would use it for my tanks and camis.

How do you all store them?

I don't have as many as you, but I just put them all on one hanger. I imagine I could fit 20 on 2 hangers.

I think your idea about the hanging sweater holder is good. You could also store them in a clear plastic drawer, so you can see inside. I don't have many camis and tanks, so I just hang mine with all my other clothing.

Maya, I've tried hanging multiple cami's on one hanger, but they always fall off, or I have to remove several to get to the one I want. Do you just hook them on a hanger like a regular shirt? Or do you hook the armholes over the hanger hook?

Hmmm...maybe I can find a tiered shirt hanger--like the pants hangers that let your hang 5 or 6 pair of pants on one hanger.....

Nicole, I store them all in a small cloth bin that sits on a shelf, I roll them and they take up very little room. I never like to hang things that have stretch although it probably wouldn't do a thing to harm them.

How about trying one of those tie hangers they make for men? I've seen them at the Container Store, They are a wooden hangar with about 5 hooks per side. You could hang the camis by the straps.

In fact, why don't I do this? I'm going to dig my camis out of the drawer and try it!

Nicole, how do you store scarves? I find them very hard to hang (without slipping off the hangar).

Oh Laura that's a good idea.

Winter scarves are stored on hooks in my mudroom. Fashion scarves (I honestly don't have many, and never wear the ones I do have), are stored on this hanger thingy I found a bazillion years ago. It's shaped like a giant hanger, but it has all these holes cut out of it--and I shove scarves and belts thru the holes. I'll have to take a photo of it, because I know I'm doing a horrible job describing it.

Actually you're doing a great job of describing it, because I can picture exactly what it is. I bet Container Store has them - thanks for the idea!

I have a bazillion fashion scarves that don't get worn because I store them in antique hat boxes stacked on a high dresser. It's a cute way to decorate but a horrible way to have to look for scarves!

I have lots of scarves and store most of them folded in clear plastic shoe boxes by color...one box of black/white, one of reds, one of blues, one of greens-yellow-turquoise, one for brown/orange. If a box gets too full, I cull some scraves I haven't worn. Big pashimas are either in a drawer, in the coat closet if getting regular use, or hung on skirt hangers with dressy clothing if that's their use. This system works pretty well for me because I'm able to find what I want quickly.
Camies and tanks are in a drawer. Belts are becoming a problem as I get more of them. It helps me to hang what I plan to wear the night before on a hook on the outside of my closet door.

Oh my gosh! I love how organized you all are. I just put mine in a drawer. But I love the idea of the hanging sweater organizer.

I don't have much closet space, so hanging is at a premium for me; only things that will wrinkle outrageously get hung. I did buy a wire-mesh 4-drawer portable organizer from The Container Store that I use for my tissue t-shirts, cami, tanks, vests, and scarves. This is great because it is in the closet with my other clothes, and because it's mesh I do see the colors and fabrics so I remember to use them.

My nice camis are folded and in one of the two 4-drawer mesh rolling carts - along with my other sweaters and below my blouses so it's easy to grab one that coordinates.

My less-nice camis - the ones that have seen better days - are in my PJ drawer. I don't bother to fold my PJ's - I just shove them all in there in a big mess!

As for scarves, for awhile I had them hanging on a wire hanger, but it got unruly. So recently I culled through my clothes and made room in one dresser drawer. I have them rolled.

Occasionally, I take them out and hang them around certain blouses in my closet. This is when I have time to advance plan what I'm going to wear for the week. For example, we are leaving Tuesday for a road trip. I know I want to coordinate with my cobalt Jcrew coat. So I took out all the scarves that look good with that, and then matched them up in the closet with blouses and cardis. Cardis are usually folded in the mesh drawers, but for vacation planning purposes, I threw them over the appropriate blouses/knit tops, and wrapped coordinating scarf around the hanger. Tomorrow night I just have to grab, fold and pack it all into a suitcase!!

When I have time on the weekend to plan ahead, I will do similar, matching up cardis/blouses/camis and scarf on hangers so they are all ready to go!

I store my cami's folded and stacked on the shelf below my hubby's shirts. But I like Greengloves idea of rolling them up in a small bin. I can still fit them on the shelf, but I can pull the one I want out without disturbing the rest of the cami's. Thanks!

All really good ideas.

My cami's are stacked in a mesh wire drawer on a shelf in our walk-in wardrobe. They are completely visible at all times. Does that make sense?

Nicole, I know exactly what you mean about not wanting camis hidden away in a drawer. I recently revamped my closet, throwing out a dresser and replacing it with simple open shelves. I want to be able to see *everything*, from sweaters to camis to socks and underwear. I have a walk-in closet, and now all my tops are on open shelves, and camis, underwear, socks, exercise clothes, PJ's etc. are in clear plastic bins. I even got various translucent containers and holders for storing my earrings, bracelets, and glasses (at Storables). Now everything is in plain sight which I love and makes getting dressed (and packing my gym bag) so much easier. It feels so good to get organized!

Antje, Do you have to pull down the bin to take out the shirt you want to wear?
I don't really have a lot of shelf space in my closet. I love the scarf holder you got--great idea.

Love the IKEA scarf holder - need to grab one next time I am down there. I have some built in shelves in a very small walk-in closet that both my husband & I use. I have my camis in a stack next to cardigans and that way I can make choices easier since they are right next to each other. I don't want to hang them as many of them are knit and I am afraid of having them stretch out. Nicole, I like your idea of using a narrower hanging storage system & I would probably do the same if I can had more hangar space. As it is, I don't have enough room to hang everything I need to (though it is nice having the built in storage shelves). I was thinking of switching to a skinny hanger system (huggable hangers I think they are called?). They supposedly take up much less room than the bulky plastic & wooden hangers that I am using now.

Shana, I beleive Shiny uses those kind of hangers. We had a big discussion about closets and hangers a few months ago.

Right now, I have *some* of my tank tops hanging in the 9" space next to my sweater hanger--but it's not wide enough for all of my tanks. I don't like having them in two different locations. So, a 9" shoe hanger thing will actually give me more hanging space.
