Hi, curious if you have had some experiences with Stitch Fix? They have almost 3 million customers, probably a few of you.
I'm a working mom with a growing consulting business. I need professional-looking business casual clothes but my experience at stores is very hit or miss. I don't enjoy spending the time getting to those stores, looking for the items that fit me, etc.
I got one box with 5 great items that I kept --two blouses, a cream blazer, Kut navy crop pants, a dress. The second box only had two items I liked, a pencil skirt and a sleeveless blouse.
I feel like this might be a way to get some stylish new items that I wouldn't have found myself AND it may be a fantasy to find a stylist who is going to find exactly what I need.
I will probably try it for a while, stock up on new tops especially (which are hard for me to find) and see what I think.

I tried Stitch Fix out of curiosity, and it was a laughable disaster. But I am a fashion stylist (and style activist)

Friends and clients who have tried Stitch Fix have had mixed results at best. Mostly not that great, but a few gems in the mix.

I did not love it, but I was just talking to my sister last night who is fashionable and picky, and she says she has been pleased with a quarterly box. I didn't like the quality of the pieces, plus...I shop a lot through advice I get here!

I've used it. My sister gave me a gift certificate for my birthday last year. It's fun to get a box of new items but it's been hit or miss for me. I've talked to other people and that seems to be the general consensus. They say on their site that it's helpful to set up a Pinterest board with items and styles that interest you, but I've never had the time to do that.

I used the service for two boxes. The quality did not equal the price. I thought it might be a way to get exposed to new brands - it didn't work for me - I think I just like shopping too much...

I echo what others are saying, found it quite overpriced for the quality and sent almost everything back. I did end up with a casual, faux leather cobalt blue clutch that I’ve used a lot in the past couple years, so not a total loss.

Thanks for the comments, interesting to hear your experiences. I do love all the great info on YLF, but don’t always have time to follow the forum closely. So love the concept of Stitch Fix—of someone else doing this work for me. But the reality may be that they don’t do this as well as we might do it ourselves.

As far as price, I did not find the pieces overpriced. They seem similar to Nordstrom, where I sometimes shop. Maybe not as good as sale prices, but it can be a lot of work to get those sale items at the right moment.

Everyone has different needs and expectations. One of my cousins tried it and felt it was just OK. Another really likes it and finds it immensely helpful for her. I’ve not tried it myself.

I’ve tried it twice and both times asked for tops only. I shared a clothing Pinterest board which they clearly paid attention to. First box, I kept nothing but gave detailed feedback. Second box, I kept two items - one really nice casual top I’ve worn several times and a nicer blouse I completely forgot about until just now! LOL. Maybe buying it without intentionally choosing it weakened my connection to it!! I will need to pick it for next week’s work trip. I am sure I will try the service again; it was kind of fun. So nice to hear you had such a great experience.

I’ve not tried it because I love shopping to much. One of my sisters, a very conservative banker, who really doesn’t have time and doesn’t really enjoy shopping did. Or I should say, she signed up. Went thru the tell us what you like phase...and called me and asked what it meant that she hated everything they showed. lol. I told her it meant she should use trunk Club

They don’t have it in Australia but I love the concept of it. I think would try it out if it was available here. Perhaps just for a seasonal refresh.

Viva- glad I reminded you of that blouse (in the back of your closet)!

One thing that I did like was that the stylist sent me things that I would not have picked for myself, but they ended up being flattering. I feel like I get in style ruts, and the stylist refreshed things a bit.

I was super excited with the first box and getting 5 (out of 5) new items that worked well. But since the second box was only 2 out of 5, their batting average has gone down...

By the way Angie I think it is so funny that you tried it!

You're a stylist at the (VERY) advanced level, it would be hard to to imagine that someone else (who didn't know you!) could direct your choices.

But I guess it is a trend in the world of shopping and fashion, it was worth trying if only to contribute to the conversation.

I am thinking now of trying Stitch Fix. Maybe they will be able to expose me to new styles that I have not considered. It is good to open your self up to new ideas.

I like the fact they have a female CEO, and I feel she will do good things for the company. They seem to have a good business idea. To back up what I say, I recently bought 200 shares of stock in the company.

I was a subscriber for @ year with an every other month subscription.
Pros: Fun new clothes to try on without the shopping time, detailed questions about likes/dislikes and respond to feedback well, they introduced me to different brands than I am usually drawn to, and you set your price point. I thought the quality of clothing was consistent with the price point I chose.
Cons: clothing styles became repetitive (they sent me the same shirt in two consecutive capsules-just in different colors. I didn't like their accessories at all, and I rarely liked everything they sent.
Ultimately, I decided I would rather shop for myself. I think it is a good service for people who don't like to shop or have a lifestyle that makes finding the time to shop difficult.

I think the business model for women at best is a hit or miss. It's a much better business model for men for two reasons:

Men's fashion has far fewer components and trends. Simple is easier to plan and suggest for.
Women's bodies are a lot more interesting because of the way they are shaped, and there is enormous variance across the shapes. This does make them more complicated to dress and fit.

These two variables alone cause immense complications - and I haven't even touched sartorial preferences and colour options.

Angie- I mostly agree with you. They aren’t likely to keep sending over winning boxes consistently. Too many variables in what I, the customer, like and need.

On the other hand, my husband doesn’t care about clothes and spends as little as possible! So he’s not a target customer.

And my calculation is whether it’s worth $25 for a new item or 2 that may fit well. For that amount, it is, for now,

@kkards, lol. Got stuck at the same point as your sister. Plus I couldn’t specify that my price point varies depending on the item type.

I just know that I’m such a special flower that I’d be very dissatisfied with anything they send.

I have not personally tried it, but I have a good friend that subscribes. She was thoroughly enthused and tried to talk me into subscribing as well. After about one year, she dropped out. No explanation.
