Steamer recommendations?

I really need to get a real clothes steamer. I have a cheap travel one and it's all junked up with minerals and it's terrible and doesn't really get wrinkles out at all. I don't want to spend a ton of money, since it would mostly be only for my silk shirts, but I want one that works.

Any recommendations or reviews? TIA!

I was sold on the idea, until I read reviews on Amazon which were quite mixed at the time. It's certainly a great idea in principle.

I love my Jiffy Esteam travel steamer (as recommended by Slate's roundup of travel steamers). I can leave my suits crumpled up on my dresser all I want and revive them in the morning before I need to wear them again. And I can take it with me on work trips (disassembled, it fits in a gallon-size ziploc).

CC, doesn't look like any handhelds get universal reviews, probably because the big steamers are the ones that really work. Thanks for the link!

Er, sorry to threadjack, Una, but it's sorta to the point (or not wholly tangential) perhaps --- I'm thinking of getting a handheld steamer myself, and since I've never owned one, wondering what I should be looking for in terms of features, quality etc... Any help, if you can?

I'm basically looking for no dripping, enough heat to really steam, relatively quick heat-up and durability. I'm not as concerned about weight or portability or industrial strength since I wouldn't be using it for everything, just my delicate items. But I am just learning about them myself. Follow along with me!

I gave up on portable ones. My husband found me a standing one like they use in stores or dry cleaners. (on ebay, I think) If I let it get hot enough there's no dripping, and if you use distilled water there should be no problem with the minerals. It does take up floor space, but I found a corner for it in the master bathroom.

Another enthusiastic recommendation for Jiffy Esteam. IMHO, it works every bit as well as the Jiffy professional floor stand model.

I have the Jiffy Esteam too, but there are a lot of highly rated larger ones on amazon that seem less prone to mishaps - my one complaint about the one I have is that if you turn it upside down the boiling water will dribble out!
