Hi all! More musings on what I've discovered in the past year. Got the idea of trying to go for 20 wears from the forum about a year ago. One month ago, thanks to Jenn, I upped my planned wears to #30.
So after a year, here are results for my dominant climate, autumn/winter/spring. I should have more clothes for these than summer as I just add extra warmth in mid-winter which is not that cold here, no snow in my city. I have 87 clothing items for this, 28 pairs of shoes, total 115. So far, the best wears are on:
my layering Ts orange/rust 2012 22 wears, teal 2012 20 wears, bright pink 2013 20 wears, black 2014 21 wears, thin black merino 2014 23 wears, black/shadow striped 2015 22 wears.
Non-layering tops: oldest shirt 1985 tartan 50+ wears, black skivvy 2008 25 wears, red/brown/black print top 2009 22 wears, green/black star top 2014 22 wears, pink/blue camo top 2016, lime floral top 2016 21 wears.
Tunics: cobalt tunic 2010 24 wears, beige graphic tunic 2010 22 wears, sheer flowers tunic 2013 20 wears, olive tunic 2014 22 wears, olive/grey striped long jumper 2014 22 wears.
Pants: black and leatherette ponte pants 2014 25 wears, Sabatini black with leather patches ponte pants 2016 21 wears, olive knit pants 2016 22 wears, charcoal knit pants 2016 20 wears, Macjay's dark straight jeans 2016 25 wears.
Jackets and coats: oldest jumper 1986 Mondi bright colours 50 + wears, faux fur vest 2012 27 wears, rust orange cardi 2012 26 wears, wide striped Sabatini jumper 2015 20 wears, black cropped jacket 2016 42 wears, black and white swing coat 2012 20 wears.
Shoes and boots: Skechers slip-ons 2009 34 wears, tall black boots 2011 21 wears, teal shoes 2012 21 wears, Steve Madden gold stud chunky ankle boots 2013 25 wears, flat black 3-strap ankle boots 2014 28 wears, Supersoft animal print slip-ons 2015 22 wears, cobalt patent ankle boots 2015 24 wears, pink sneakers 2016 27 wears.
So the total of at least 20 wears is clothes 28/87, 32%, shoes 8/28, 28%. Overall 36/115 31%.
I also checked items ( "benchwarmers" ) that were not worn AT ALL in 2015,16 or 17 so far: there are 12 of these or 10 %. And there are 5 items only worn once, 4 %. Pics show frequently worn items: 1. rust/orange layering T with cobalt tunic, 2. thin black layering T with olive tunic and flat black 3-strap ankle boots, 3. thin black merino layering T with sheer flowers tunic, faux fur vest and Sabatini black leather patch ponte pants, 4. bright pink layering T and black leatherette/ponte pants, 5. cobalt patent boots, 6. lime floral top, 7. grey/olive long striped layering jumper, 8 and 9 and 10. pink/blue camo top, dark straight Macjay's jeans, black cropped jacket, pink sneakers.
11. black with gold studs Steve Madden chunky ankle boots, 12. teal shoes, 13. Supersoft animal print slip-ons, 14. black lace slip-on Skechers.
What I'm most proud of is how some of the 2015 and 2016 buys have so quickly become workhorses, especially the black cropped jacket. And what I'm not sure of is the 14% worn once or not at all for the past 2.5 years that I still seem to want to keep.
I've read that the average wears for women these days is 7. So I'm beating that for these. Of course there is another 55% of my dominant season wardrobe which DOES get worn but not as much. I haven't done my summer wardrobe at all here, I doubt the percentages are any better as I have even more choice there!
I am interested in anyone's ideas on my numbers or issues that you spot. Whether I can bring myself to change is another matter! But I feel quite pleased with trying to wear my clothes and am also still buying less overall. 10 items so far in 2017
