Statement necklace - Etsy - YouLookFab Forum

I posted yesterday about wanting help with finding a statement necklace (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ace---help), as I rarely by accessories and don't have that particular kind of necklace. I found some on eBay but some of you suggested Etsy, and as I like the idea of supporting individual designers, I had a look and found some that I like!

Of these I, at the moment, mostly like #1, 2 and 4, and they're all very affordable.

However, yesterday I also found a Swedish designer with a necklace that feels really "me" and reminds me of the (few) other necklaces I have. This was in the other post as well, but here again in #8. It's a bit pricey though... But as Astrid and a few others pointed out, it should be something that I love, that makes my heart sing... And as this instantly felt like "me", maybe it'd be worth it?

Any thoughts are much appreciated!

I like8, but I'm loving 7 very much. I think it's because it's made of smaller pieces put together in a mesh design that will show a bit of skin through. In simpler terms, it's not a continuous block as many bib necklaces are. I find these styles easier to style because they look delicate and feminine and not chunky (which can add visual bulk on the neckline and flatters only those with a long, slim neck). I think this one is gorgeous, classy and definitely a statement piece.

And while all of this will be true for #8 as well, it looks too delicate to me. I love the design, very artistic, and I think it's biggest USP is the unique design. But I see that the birds are connected through slim metal joints that look very fragile to me. I've had a favourite necklace break once because of wear and tear (the thin metal snapped at such a joint) and I've never been able to replace it. Maybe you should order the #8 since you love it so much. Check how it looks when wearing and see the quality for yourself. I do like it very much.

I think you really really love #8. And that makes me think you should get it. My main concern is that its delicate nature makes it less of a statement.

#8 is lovely, but I'm not sure it's a statement necklace -- for example, it might not hold its own on the dark dress you showed in your other thread.

So I would say to get #8 since you love it, but also get a statement necklace that fit your original purpose. Or wear your dress to some local stores and try on necklaces to see what sizes you actually like in real life.

Agree with Liz. I am loving #8 and can see it worn with so many things. It is subtle and soft and gorgeous. I find that it's best to try them on. I've been to countless jewellery parties and often what I pick out from the catalogue just doesn't look or feel the same around my neck. It's the unexpected ones that often work the best. If you can order and return if necessary that would be great. Or try some on in some local shops if possible. Fun!

Go for #8. It is unusual and more one-of-a-kind than the others.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts! I probably will order #8, if not this month then the next, and also look for something else in the stores in my town. I hear what you say about it being very delicate, so if I find another one I might only use it now and then, and hope that it'll last longer..!

I really like #2 and #8 and think they'd be quite versatile. I guess the question is, do you want the necklace for a splash of color or just as a focal piece? I have a couple of statement necklaces and find I usually reach for the plain metallic over the colorful one, but they make for really different looks.

I like 8 best. It has a whimsical appeal. If I remember correctly, and I may not, so forgive me if I have the wrong person, and if the correct person reads this I hope they will forgive me also, but I seem to recall a necklace with a child on a swing. It has a similar feel to number 8, and I would imagine them belonging to the same person.

Oh, and whoever does own that necklace might want to think about this one anyway! :-).

Oh, Staysfit, you remember absolutely correctly! What a memory! I actually included that necklace in my first post about statement necklaces (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ace---help), to show something I like, and something that also turned out to be similar in style to the statement one that I like, #8!
